Favourite rainy day outfit, rainy day rules

I struggle to dress stylishly but also practically on rainy days. Since its such a frequent occurrence in the UK, I want to get better at it. What's your favourite rainy day outfit or do you have an outfit formula or rules for wet days? The only guidelines I've come up with are don't wear anything suede, no wide legged trousers or canvas shoes as I don't want to drag soggy detritus around with me. I also avoid mascara after several unfortunate incidents (yes I know waterproof mascara exists but it's so hard to get off).

A beautiful long raincoat takes care of the bulk of it. For a while I had some fun with a yellow mac and matching sou'wester, which seemed to make people smile. Skirt of your preferred length and water resistant knee high boots work well. I love a huge umbrella but appreciate they aren't always practical to carry around.

I am finally in possession of a fabulous, dark olive oil coloured, knee length kagool (Margaret Howell sale) whose waxing renders it rainproof and whose 100% cotton fabric means I’m not drenched in sweat whilst protecting myself from rain.

At the moment I’m still wearing clumpy soled, lace up ankle boots with trousers tucked into my socks if I go out in the rain. It’s still too warm for full length wellies, though I may get an ankle height pair this year.

Also too hot to keep my hood up. My current umbrella is on its last legs, as well as ruining the vibe of my outfit, so I’ve been scoping out the options and have settled on something co-ordinating from London Undercover. As they don’t appear to come with carrying straps I’ll have one made for me.

Last weekend was the first time this season that I felt the need for gloves. It’s always a battle between my desire for the unique and luxurious, and the reality of everyday wet weather life. None of my current pairs suit the new kagool so … 🤷‍♀️

Not sure I have any ‘rules’ as such though I try to avoid carrying a huge bag if it’s pouring. But mostly I love being out in wind and rain!

I work outdoors so I’ve got all manner of practical rain wear. But one thing that has translated into every day are my merry people water proof boots. I have a work pair and then a sort of dark brown pair that I wear with trousers when it’s really wet in winter for going out and about places in the day and you would never know they are (really) wellies.

Always some kind of boot with trousers that tuck in so nothing drags on the floor (shame as I really got into wide legged over the summer!) So because I go tight in the bottom half then I go looser on the top half so loving the over sized shirts with a knit and an oversized blazer. I’m always cold and hate being wet so have invested in a couple of different really good raincoats with various amounts of padding depending how cold it is. I try not to use a brolly as my commute is to London and quite awkward walking with one when it’s busy!

Yes I agree umbrellas are awkward. I think maybe I need a new raincoat, something long and not too hot. Boots mentioned above sound good too.

I've just realised I can wear my faux leather jackets that I bought 2/3 years ago in the M&S sale & have never worn. Ideal for this so miserable & wet weather.
I am sulking that I haven't been able to wear my new fringed suede jacket yet though.
