100% cotton leggings?

I am still searching for my dream, comfortable trousers that also look high quality and “put together”.

I really like wearing leggings in terms of comfort, but don’t like the look of them. Either they look like I’m about to do a workout (high quality workout ones) or they just look a bit… not put together? / cheap fabrics?? (Ultra comfortable Uniqlo ones) I don’t know.

anyway I’ve decided I’d like to try some 100% cotton leggings. Does anyone have any good recommendations?

I don’t know of any but also not sure how they would work. It’s the elastane/lyrca that makes them hold their shape. I think 100% cotton would bag and sag rather unattractively!

You won't get 100% cotton. There needs to be some elastane and/or polyamide in the material

I bought 100% cotton leggings from white stuff about 5 years ago. They are thick and comfortable and I still wear them although in the house now. Don't know if they still do them but worth a look.

I know this is completely opposite to what you're looking for but I've switched from leggings to m&s goodmove straight leg joggers and m&s straight leg trousers (which are more put together than the joggers).

The joggers don't look like joggers, they are straight leg and nice material.

It depends what put together means to you. I wear the joggers running errands, supermarket, doctor appointments, visiting inlaws but wouldn't wear them out for a meal or day out with a friend.

Hmm you have a point about the sogginess. Perhaps high 90-something % cotton and some elastane?

I have some from Seasalt and some from Lands End. Only a few % stretchy stuff.

Bitzee · 16/09/2025 13:41

Leggings have to have stretch like elastane or similar. Denim jeans, the stiff type with no stretch, are 100% cotton but I’m guessing that’s not what you want? Maybe try ponte trousers for a stretchy but more put together look.

I think I find myself with nothing comfortable to wear on the few occasions I go out in the evening, except the new style of baggy trousers, which make me look rather short. I am rather short, but even shorter!

I don’t miss skinny jeans because they weren’t comfortable, but that style definitely suited me better than the baggy style of trousers that are fashionable now!

these trousers sound good though - I will check them out!

Pure cotton leggings don’t exist. They have to have a lot of elastane to work, although there used to be more ‘soft’ ones about than there are now.

If they’re for ‘nice’ wear Falke make good ones, soft, seamless and opaque. Link below.

I don’t wear leggings because I don’t like the athleisure look. Its not compulsory to wear leggings just because they’re comfy and currently in fashion.

Falke

CoffeeBeansGalore · 16/09/2025 13:45

Asda do some which are 96% cotton 4% elastane(?). Some styles are ribbed which makes them a little thicker.
M&S did some cotton corded ones last year. Again high 90s% cotton with a bit of stretch. Look quite nice with ankle boots & jacket for a day out.

They'll not remain like leggings for long if they're 100% cotton.

Not cotton, but I really rate the bamboo ones by BAM - they are incredibly soft and have a natural almost cottony feel, not like classic shiny workout leggings at all. And the ones I have are quite thick so you feel held in but still comfy.

Try looking for soft trousers. Autumn winter ranges are in now, so the heavier weight materials will be in stock.

Places like Cotton Traders, Lands End can be surprisingly good for this sort of thing. Also stalwarts like M&S, Uniqlo.
