Do I need a gilet?

Going away soon and will need to take layers for fluctuating weather for some of the time. Is it worth getting a gilet, something lightweight-ish but warm? If so, any recommendations?

They were called body warmers when I was a kid.

I remember both "body warmer" and "gilet" being used back in, I think, the 80s.

In the end, I bought a secondhand Crew Clothing gilet from Vinted. Under £20 with fees and postage. New ones start at £66. It's reversible in good colours for me. Put through a machine hand wash programme as it smelled really strongly of something - laundry stuff I think - but is in great condition and good and clean.
