Could DD2 have a haircut that's bob length at the back but shorter over the ears ... without it being a mullet?

She's 4 and got quite a round face and currently has a bob ... The side bits get in her way quite a lot and I'd like her to have a haircut where she doesn't necessarily have to wear clips/hairbands etc. Was looking around DD1's school this morning for inspiration but all the 5 year olds have got bobs or longer hair ... which wouldn't be quite right for the tomboy'ish DD2 (hair's a birdnest ... would be more than painful to have it too long).

Any thoughts/links would be great ... I'm not very confident on the hair style front and don't want to scar DD2 for life with a dud cut ... especially as it's not that long before she starts 'big school'

How about a pageboy cut. HArd to explain, unfortunately the only example I can think of is Liz Hurley's son has had one (I promise he does have quite long hair)

This is the best example I can find on web

Looking at west3's link - that's kind of what DD2 has now ... only the side bits fall into her face a lot and that's why I wondered about doing something with them (the sidebits that is) that would look nice.

Hard to tell Damien Hurley's hair ... finding a bit difficult to overcome the fact that he's a boy!!

i would say 'no'

go for shorter at back choppy layers to front

piratecat · 02/06/2008 12:04

perhaps she could have some layers cut in , just more at the sides.

when my dd's hair was in a bob at that length it did get in the way, or in her food. When it grew a few inches it was better

Right not exactly the best example I know but this is the general idea. Shorter at the front but gradualy gets longer.
Gives a kind of idea about how it works although obviously not quite so severe looking lol.

odd example

I would also say no.

It would be a mullet.

piratecat · 02/06/2008 12:16

just wouldn't look good imo. Snowstorm, maybe yu can just grow it a bit more, then the weight of it will stop it getting in the way?

kittywise · 02/06/2008 12:21

no. no no. no. no. no .no

piratecat · 02/06/2008 12:24

coupl eof kids in dd's year have the mullet look, they just look like farmers daughters, oh they prob are but you know what i mean. That sort of style always looks like it was done at home by mum. The only people who get away with it are cool boys or children on the insleeve of chalie and lola books!!

Just looked at the 'odd example' - I suspect this might look like a kind of elongated pudding bowl on DD2.

I've just put her hair in bunches which looks quite cute in a young kind of way ... maybe I'll do that for now. She still has a full fringe but that suits her for now.

It's just that if you go short then everyone thinks they look boy'ish or assumes that they are a boy and I'm not sure about the maintenance of going longer on her. I wanted something in the middle but am very afraid of mullets and pudding bowls.

DD2 has got a big sister who is going through a very pretty stage (you know what I mean, they seem to go in and out of them don't they!) and although DD2 can look very cute (and is of course totally georgeous!), she's never been 'pretty'. I know that all sounds a bit woffly but what I'm really trying to say is that I want to do my best for her and if I got it wrong then it would probably be very wrong!
