Why can I not settle on a style?

I'm in my 40s and still can't seem to settle on a coherent style.

I'm usually smart casual with a country bent (having grown up in the countryside) so jeans and a jumper with either trainers or leather ankle boots, a body warmer or puffer coat/wax jacket. All neutral colours. It's not very stylish tbh.

Then I like the cosy apres ski look with big fleeces and boots.

But then also I like the stylish city look with long macs and tailored clothes. This is a bit hard to pull off as I can't wear heels, and also it's not very practical with children and dogs!

And I like the whole Levi dungarees/Doc Martens style too but have a pair of docs that have been sitting unworn as I feel too frumpy to risk it.

How can I make myself more coherent and stylish? Thanks

Is there a reason why you can't just wear any of those things when you feel like it? Wear the stylish city clothes on days when you are out shopping, meeting friends etc and your fleece etc when you're with the kids and dogs. No one sticks to one style all of the time!

Your styles don't sound so disjointed, the countryside look goes hand in hand with après ski in winter and mac with tailored clothes. I can imagine it as the wardrobe of a middle class, commuter town person. The DM with dungarees is more rebellious, was it your previous style? Like MilkAndBlackSpiders said above, you can keep them all for certain times and places. My style became more consistent when I focused on capsule wardrobes for a season or two at a time so everything I bought was classic and would mix and match... but, it's easy for me as my DC is now older and I have a consistent routine lifestyle! If you wear many hats, it's understandable to need different styles.

Can you see any common denominator with your favourite pieces that you frequently wore versus the items that you bought and hardly or never wore? It might give you more clarity on your actual versus fantasy self.
