I want to dye my wedding dress

It's a knee length cream dress with black beading on the skirt and around the top of the bodice from Coast, not a wedding dress per se but it is what I wore to get married.

I love it and would love to be able to wear it again but cream is just not a colour I would wear very often, it's formal enough that I often think I would love to wear it to other weddings, if only it wasn't cream and would look like I was trying to be bride for a day!

I wouldn't do it myself, obviously, but still don't know if it's a good idea or a disaster waiting to happen? As it is it just sits in the bag in the cupboard and never sees the light of day.

what's it made of? Manmade fabrics are hard to dye so unless it's silk it migh tbe tricky.

tbh a knee-length dress wth black beading doesn't sound too bridal to wear as a wedding guest.

I bottled it myself!
Take it to a reputable place and ask them if it'll work ok. Some fabrics don't dye well, others do. Good luck.

It's kind of like this but has straps and different beading but similar idea.

I live in a small place and most weddings I would wear it to are of people who have been to mine, and it seems like it would be a bit odd to turn up in what everyone would know was my wedding dress iykwim

I will check what it's made of. Not really sure where to take it though.

I think you have to be careful of the thread used for the stitching.
I've dyed things in the past and although the fabric has been ok, the thread has stayed the original colour

A professional dyer might be able to do it though woody do you think?
mami, have a look online and just drop them some enquiries. I'm sure if it can't be done, they'd say so. Alternatively, wear a black bolero or wrap with it as it is? It'd look fabulous I'm sure and not at all like a wedding dress. Wear big fashion jewelry too to jazz it up a bit.

I enquired about dying a wedding dress once, and I was told that, unless it is silk and/ or cotton, it wouldn't dye very well.

Ah! there's the answer then. Mine was satin, so I'm glad I didn't risk it!
