"Wet" skin

Hi all 😊

I've used all kinds of moisturisers on and off over the years. Not very diligently, I must say 😅. I'm now trying to improve my skin barrier, especially on my face where I suffer from redness. I use Bioderma Sensibio AR+ Anti-Redness Cream for my face and CeraVe Moisturising Lotion for my body.

They somehow never seem to fully dry, and my skin ends up feeling "wet" and very sticky. It's an unpleasant feeling, and I’ve never experienced that before. Is this normal for these kinds of products, or am I doing something wrong (like applying too much)? I’ve tried using them on both dry and damp skin, but the result is always the same.

🙏

I would start off by using half the amounts you're currently applying, you can always dab a bit more later.

I don't know the products you mentioned but I absolutely hate the damp and clammy skin feeling after moisturisers.

I have sensitive skin that gets irritated and red sometimes, I found it helpful to use:

Avene spray after a shower to cool off my skin

Then I apply hylauronic Acid

Then I apply with Avene Cicalfate cream

I use a small amount of Vaseline Aloe vera lotion for my body.

Thanks @RealCrab for your thorough reply 😊

I'll try using a smaller amount and see if that helps. It's a really odd (and unpleasant) feeling that I didn’t experience with other products. It might be something specific to those aimed at improving the skin barrier, which unfortunately is what I need at the moment.

Oh yes, I’d forgotten about the Avène Spring Water Spray. I’ll give it another go!

Avène Cicalfate Cream is looking really promising too.

Thank you! 🙏

You're welcome. I don't get the wet feeling with the cicalfate Avene cream, it's really thick and a little goes a long way. It can be hard to blend because it's so thick so dab tiny dots all around your face and neck, your skin should warm it up in a minute or two and make it easy to rub in. I sometimes use it when my skin is still damp from the hylauronic acid and it makes the cream not drag so much. This product is also for repairing skin barrier, and has succeeded in my case thankfully, so I don't think it's necessarily a property of skin barrier creams. Some products feel like this just sit on the skin and it takes ages to get absorbed, very slimy feeling specially when you're in a rush to get dressed. If I put lotion while my body is damp is takes a while to dry, so dry your body thoroughly with a towel before application.

Cerave creates a problem for me so I prefer la roche posay. I have an oily skin so I maintain a routine for that after multiple researches on my face. So here is my routine that I follow with that:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
la roche posay spf
Evening:
la roche posay moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel

@RealCrab

Congrats on repairing your skin barrier! 😊 How long did it take you?

I’m going to give Avène Cicalfate cream and hyaluronic acid a try.

When it comes to my face, I don’t tend to use much lotion. Like you, I dab small dots. I then tap gently. I admit I’m guilty of using a lot of lotion on my body. I don’t moisturise very often but when I do I give myself a massage at the same time so I end up using loads 😁

Thanks @UmberMoose!

Glad you found something that works better for you 😊 It’s a long (and expensive!!) path to finding the right routine. Which La Roche-Posay moisturiser are you using?

It took me a good 6 months but hopefully your skin will repair itself much sooner.

Yes, indeed! I use the double repair which I find suitable for my skin.
