Where do I start? As a teen i used to rock the black eyeliner and powder look. Since then nothing.
I'm tried of being ugly and I want to feel amazing when out and about. I'm married with 3 kids and the stress and tiredness definitely shows in my face I think. I look much older.
I'm tempted to post a face pic but obviously it's as outing as you get lol.

I don't even know my skin type How do I find out? I have brown eyes and hair if that helps

This was me! And then I needed to do my own wedding make up so had to learn fast 😂 boots do really good free guidance sessions that you can book. I did that and they helped me find the right foundation. The thing I'd never heard of but makes a big difference is primer. So I do factor 50, primer, foundation. Then mascara and a little bit of blusher. It's just enough to move me from haggard troll to reasonably tired mess!

Try following someone on Instagram like Wayne Goss or Erica Taylor who give really good sensible advice about getting the basics right.

Make up mistakes are things like getting the wrong colour/type of foundation so you could go and fiddle about at a make up counter and see what matches. Or use a tinted moisturiser which is more modern. You can't go far wrong with Erborian cc cream as it is lightweight and adjusts colour. Start off with that (and a concealer. I'd use a primer ), basic blusher like Benetint (only use a couple of drops and blend quickly), curl your eyelashes and use a mascara. Maybe cream eyeshadow you apply with your finger like Wisdom by Trinny London. And a non cakey powder like By Terry hylaronic powder which is very forgiving. Tinted lipbalm or a lipgloss. Then as you build confidence start looking at adding more products. Make up is fun and there's so much information out there these days!

I would start with mascara and a sheer lip balm type lipstick. Get used to wearing them daily for a month then you can try other things. I think if you've worn nothing it can be overwhelming to go to a full face of slap.

35 here, and never lost my love for make up, but lost my love for self care so getting back into it was tough, skin prep is a massive thing, as in taking care of your skin. It may be worth looking at some skin care brands within your budget. Elemis is amazing but expensive but there are plenty of amazing brands out there. If you’re not looking after your skin make up tends to look older etc. second that invest in a decent foundation and then mascara you can get from pretty much anywhere and other bits etc, haus labs is amazing as its skin care based and doesn’t dry out etc. it’s worth watching some TikTok’s or people to can relate too and also possibly booking in somewhere like boots or Sephora with a consultation for a rep of the store not a brand as then it won’t be biased etc

I'm a new mum, pale, and a natural redhead so need help looking defined (invisible brows and eyelashes) and a bit polished and radiant

I use a moisturiser with hydrochloric acid and vitamin C serum, and then a tinted moisturizer, eyebrow gel in blond, mascara in brown/black, and a tinted lip balm

I hope not hydrochloric acid! 🤣

Hi @Makeupmakeup1991 I'm in my 30s with young kids too, so I get it! I now have a reasonably simple daily routine down as I find I feel so much better about myself if I put a little bit of effort into my appearance. I am now expanding my routine but I'd just start with the basics for now.

So first....skincare. I try and focus more on my skin than my make-up as I want to be starting from a decent base. Drink your water, eat your fruit and veg, take a multivitamin etc.

If you don't know your skin type I'd hazard a guess that it's normal. I'm oily so I have enlarged pores, get blackheads and any heavy face creams give me spots. If you have dry skin I think you know about it. Maybe start with lightweight products and see how you get on.

As a basic routine for skincare I would cleanse, moisturise and apply a SPF in the morning. I use a Vitamin C serum and then L'Oréal Revitalift Anti UV fluid SPF 50 as my day cream in the morning. At night get into a routine of properly cleansing your face and applying a night cream and then go from there. I love the Neutrogena hydro boost one as again I need lightweight moisture but different things work for different people.

For make-up, focus on the very basics first. I second Erborian CC cream as a great base, then some mascara (I use L'Oréal Paradise), a bit of blush (Benefit Dandelion is very forgiving) and a tinted lip balm. Watch some videos online for basic tutorials but just try a couple of things first and when you're used to them you can add more.
