Matt SPF or primer

I'm late 40s. Use trent, so use La Rose Posey SPF50 after moisturiser. It makes my skin very shiny and highlights my massive pores.

Sometimes I use Erborian CC cream but this sinks into pores leaving dots on my nose. Have tried so many primers first and nothing stops it.

Any recommendations for something that can mattify my skin or stop CC creams sinking into my pores? Or do I just give up?

I use Mac mattifying primer and the Suqu (I think it’s spelt like that) compact foundation.
I have the same problem as you.
i use Eucerin spf 50 oil control under the primer and no moisturiser in the day.

I’ve just seen that Bare minerals have bought out a compact foundation which looks light. I find the powder compacts better than creams/bb/cc as they sink and stick in my pores. You can also put a light covering or build it up depending on the need.

FableLies · 07/09/2025 21:00

I have Bare Minerals, but it still gives the pore effect. I also find it burns my skin a little.

I'll have a look for the Mac primer. I've spent decades trying to stop my pores from being so porey or things from sinking in, but nothing works. Trent does nothing.

Is it the new compact of bare minerals you have? I won’t buy it if so!
Dior do a great powder foundation compact which is the only other one I’ve found (since they discontinued the Chanel one) that doesn’t sit in pores. It doesn’t come in a very good range of colours though.

FableLies · 08/09/2025 21:23

Arh no, it isn't the new one. Just the powder in a pot.

Supergoop, mineral matt screen spf 40.I get it on the Revolve app.I wore it throughout the summer, feels really nice on the skin, l find it a good makeup base too.

searchforthesun · 09/09/2025 06:16

The Supergoop mentioned above is good, one of the better ones. It doesn’t have a slight tint to it. I just find, because my skin is so oily I prefer a powder compact. I also feel like you can put less on.
Definitely worth a try though OP, they do it is small trial sizes.
if I get round to trying the new benefit one (trying to use the others up first) I’ll let you know how I get on.

I have the same issue with La Roche posay, it blows my mind how many people love it when it just sits on my face making me look like a massive shiny blob!

i tend to rotate what I use as my favourites are expensive. If money was no object I’d use supreme screen by ultra violette every day. It’s amazing and makes my skin look great.

the murad spf 40 is also good but pricy.

for a better priced alternative that doesn’t shine or bring me out in spots I use the eucerin spf 50, which you can get in boots.

In will post links separately, sorry I don’t know how to make them pretty

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 09/09/2025 06:27

Forgot to say, I don’t use separate moisturiser in the morning, one of these three is enough for my skin

FableLies · 09/09/2025 08:35

I think I'm going to try this. My face cream is due too, so I'll try this out, and maybe the MAC primer. I then may consider a BB or CC cream, but really don't like full coverage or foundation I'd prefer something that is a tint, or nothing at all. There's no point trying to hide my melasama and it will just snik into my pores so I look like a strawberry.

I'm oily too and my routine is:

L'Oréal Revitalift Anti UV fluid SPF 50. I love this. It's lightweight and doesn't make me greasy. I use as my morning moisturiser, after my vitamin c serum as I don't need a separate day cream.

Elf power grip primer. Love this stuff for makeup longevity but if you're worried about covering skin texture they also do a poreless one. You could get both the SPF and primer for under £20 so could be worth a try without spending loads of money.

I use Laura Geller baked foundation as I find powder more forgiving on my than liquid. It's very light coverage, not cakey on me at all. I've also used Erborian CC in the past and liked it but I'd want a bit of powder on top anyway (again, thank you oily skin) so I just go for the Laura Geller balance and brighten.

FableLies · 09/09/2025 09:56

The thing is, I'm not oily, I'm more dry! But any product with a bit of shine highlights my massive pores.

I have been using Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen and found it definitely doesn’t emphasise pores, if anything it conceals them. Expensive though. You could also try putting some pore blur primer on as last product, I find Revolution pore blur primer quite good.

Inyournewdress · 09/09/2025 11:05

Sorry, what is Trent?

searchforthesun · 09/09/2025 21:54

You like the same spf’s as me.
i think the Eucerin is great value for money.
I’ve have just bought a new one to try beauty of Joeson I think it’s called. I’ll let you know how it compares.

Wuss24 · 09/09/2025 22:05

Try nivea shine control sfp 50 it's amazing

FableLies · 10/09/2025 08:27

Ended up ordering the Eucerin SPF and MAC primer. Let's see how they work.

searchforthesun · 12/09/2025 12:34

I hope they work for you, please let me know. As I said above I think it makes a difference what formula of foundation you use of the top of them. I’d try the Dior powder compact if you can get it in the right colour.
Remember to let each product settle when you are layering them.

NewlyBouffant · 12/09/2025 13:34

Nothing gets past Paula's Choice Shine Stopper - although I do resent having to use it only because the SPF moisturiser is so greasy.

Asda liquid baby talc also works wonders and is very, very much cheaper.
