Any hairdressers around? Help taming hair at the back

I had my hair done a couple of weeks ago, fairly short at the back and longer at the front. Of course my hairdresser makes it look fabulous, but as soon as I've washed it and dried it, it flicks out like this. I hate it. I've got really thick hair which doesn't seem to want to sit flat.

Any ideas? I've tried serums. My straighteners are ok doing the top half but they do nothing on the lower fluffy bits.
I blow dry but I struggle with the back because I obviously can't see what I'm doing so I tend to just brush with a paddle brush while pointing my hairdryer down, and then it dries like this.
Where am I going wrong?

Would something like a heated brush help?

Is it an inverted bob? I'm not sure the cut is that great tbh. Possible finishing off with a Revlon One step might help.

Yea I'm starting to wonder whether the cut isn't that great. Here's a picture of what it should look like after I'd messed about with straighteners and serum for half an hour. Does the cut look ok on this?

No, sorry. I would get it re done elsewhere ,the lengths are all over the place.

notatinydancer · 04/09/2025 17:58

I’m sorry I think that’s a bad cut. That style doesn’t suit your hair type.

HelloHattie · 04/09/2025 17:59

The cut is terrible. I would find another hairdresser. It’s all over the place.

Oh dear. I'm embarrassed about going out with it now! I didn't think it was that bad.

So what would then? Surely it wouldn't be a good idea to have it long either, having such thick hair.

Thank you. I'll book an appointment with a different hairdresser for an opinion.

The cut isn’t precision perfect but ultimately it’s not the right style for your hair type, that’s the issue. On finer hair that cut would look much better, your hair is too thick and coarse for this style. You need to
let it grow down from your shortest layer, go every six weeks and have an inch or so cut off just the length, not the layers. Once there’s more length and weight in the layers you’ll find it easier to style. I would use a hot brush for now and try and smooth and curl the ends under. Serums will do nothing. It won’t take long until it’s more manageable and you can use the growing time to decide on a more suitable hairstyle.

you have lovely thick hair but that style of cut is unsuitable for it as the shortened ends at the back make it look too choppy. For now I would try to disguise the ends by using a small pair of straighteners and curling your hair in a kind of beach wave style !

Curl
or wave it like this

Thanks. I had it longer before and it was a lot worse with the kinking out. I don't know if it's because I still had some layers in to thin it out.

I want to try and make it thinner by getting rid of some of it, but still styles. It takes too long to dry and straighten when it's too thick.

Curl
or wave it like this

Problem is I want it quick and easy. Curling takes so long!
I just wish I could have the hair I could simply run some straighteners through quickly every morning and that's it.
