Have you been to your GP? Or a chiropodist? Are you otherwise healthy or is this a side effect of a condition or drugs regime?

Has anyone looked at your diet or ability to absorb nutrients? I realise you’re looking for relief from the symptom, but the cause seems a more pressing question.

Anyway - Foot Mender

would be worth trying and persevering with. It’s not cheap but it does seem to be effective.

Allpresan Diabetic Foam Cream is very good.

My late husband had very bad cracked heels. Allpresan sorted them out. Don't laugh, but doctors and podiatrists complimented me on how good his feet were. (I had to take care of them - he'd had a stroke.)

You don't need a lot of the cream. There is an 'intensive' variant, but the normal variant works fine.

Omega oils as a vitamin supplement help too. Flexitol heel balm (with urea) then socks overnight.

I am prone to this. My chiropodist told me to moisturise daily putting socks on afterwards, and using a heavy duty moisturiser. If you are diligent this really works.

Seconding allpresan foam 10% urea. All my diabetic patients use it and its wondrous stuff. Use it twice a day. Invest in a podiatrist once to debride your heels then use the cream twice a day without fail. Don't wear flip flops.

Mango seed butter from Cantu. Dreamy stuff.

RampantIvy · 02/09/2025 07:35

Boots Cracked Heel Balm with 25% Urea. It has the consistency of lard, so you need those little cotton socks to put on, but it truly is magical stuff, and is cheaper than some of the other suggestions.

The active ingredient is Urea, so if you buy something else, just look for the percentage of urea as the active ingredient.

I moisturise my feet every day, just a regular body lotion, and once a week, soak them, pumice stone for the rough skin, and Flexitol with socks.

I used to be terribly prone to cracked heels, but I haven't had then for years with this routine. It isn't a short-term fix and you do have to be diligent with daily moisturiser.

There’s a chunky chapstick type product on Amazon with Urea and Salicylic acid. That’s proving really fast acting for DH and I.

When your feet are soggy after a shower/bath/swim, use a towel to rub the spongey white skin off. That helps a lot. We were told to do that by a nurse. The stiff skin prevents the soft skin underneath from healing which is why the splits tend to get bigger rather than healing up.

I suspect bare feet in sandals makes it worse, so next year I’m going to get my feet good over winter and then be very diligent in the summer to keep them that way.

GameOfJones · 02/09/2025 07:50

You need a foot cream with urea. I use Scholl cracked heel balm because I prefer the pritt stick style to apply the cream and then put socks on. I do it a few times a week when watching TV in the evening and that keeps on top of it.

RealReginaPhalange · 02/09/2025 08:37

Thank you all, i will have a look at your suggestions later tonight when kids are asleep.

and to answer a question re my health- i am healthy, nothing really going on but havent been to the go cause though it is more cosmetic than a health issue and i just need to find a way to tackle it🤷🏻‍♀️

Can’t help with the actual cracks, but once feet are back to normal this regime will help keep them that way. Get a good quality normal cream for dry heels from Boots or elsewhere. Buy these gel lined heel socks (link below), and put the cream and socks on at bedtime. I do this about twice a week, and my heels never get dry any more, even wearing sandals a lot in summer

A high % urea cream will do the trick.

SiobahnRoy · 02/09/2025 09:07

I bought a NuYou Pedi Roller in £10 Tuesday at boots and it is the best thing ever. Only £20 full price and worth every penny.

TheSandgroper · 04/09/2025 09:22

I used to swipe my heels with a slice of aloe vera every morning.
