Thread veins on face - do you know any treatment that works?

I have thread veins on my face, mostly on my cheeks & upper lip. I think because I have always had sensitive skin/high colouring which flares up constantly with changes of temperature etc.

Does anyone know any treatment that might actually work on these?

Laser will fix this. Just google it to research it. Search for red vein removal. Find a highly rated provider near you, preferably a doctor. I’ve had it done and it works. They will come back after a few years but maybe not as bad.

There are clinics that do thread vein removal - I did this, they used a treatment called Thermavein and it worked really well for me. Each session only took a few minutes, I had 5 sessions altogether. Not cheap, but it really works.

I’ve suffered from thread veins since my thirties and find it a constant job to keep on top of them. In my very considerable experience, and I think I’ve tried everything going 😥😥😥 I would recommend Thermavein. I’ve tried various laser treatments and none have really worked for me. Old school electrolysis also worked well, but not many people around now who can do it well.

What is the difference between Thermavein and IPL for veins? I had two sessions with Vasculase laser and it did absolutely nothing so a complete waste of money.

poppysqueak · 02/09/2025 10:29

I agree - Advanced Electrolysis has worked really well on my thread veins. Took about 5 sessions to sort out, then maintenance 1/2 times per year afterwards.

Thermavein is similar to advanced electrolysis. An electric current is run through a small needle to cauterise the vein and stop the flow of blood. It's slightly uncomfortable but bearable IMO. Would definitely recommend. I think it may be cheaper than laser, but not up to date on prices for that. I paid around £145 for one session at one clinic, then £500 for a block of 3 at a new place nearer to home.

If anyone is near to Manchester I can recommend a couple of excellent places.

Laser, had it done on the side of my nose.

Also, have you been to a dermatologist, as you may have rosacea? I was diagnosed at 51, this summer. It is mild, but it is.

Thank you, I did have advanced electrolysis years ago but she has gone out of business now and seem to remember it was very cheap whereas Thermavein is around £400 . I am not too far from Manchester and would appreciate any recommendations, thanks.@MsDastardley

Can thermavein be done on legs?

indoorplantqueen · 02/09/2025 13:19

Laser. I’ve had BBL and Moxi combo and it worked really well.

It can.

MsDastardley · 02/09/2025 18:12

@superstar63 here you go

https://www.vbaesthetics.co.uk/ www.vbaesthetics.co.uk/]]]] this lady is a RN who worked in dermatology in an NHS hospital.

https://avaclinics.co.uk Independent clinic run by two NHS consultant vascular surgeons. Price is more expensive but this is for a block of 3 sessions.

I’ve used them both and no hesitation in recommending.

@LeeshaPaper I’ve just had some thermavein done on spider veins around knee. This was part of a bigger treatment to treat a couple of small varicose veins. Results look good so far. If you are having a treatment on legs you will need to wear compression stockings for a few days. I would recommend having an ultrasound to see if spider veins are caused by leaking valves etc from other veins. If you’re near to Manchester,AVA clinic offers a free initial consultation and scan with no pressure to book a follow up.

A single electrolysis session sorted mine 12 years ago - brilliant. Not expensive.
Had to keep face dry and unwashed for about 4-5 days after to allow crusting.
The therapist said it was her favourite treatment to administer, for more or less instant results that were also long lasting

superstar63 · 02/09/2025 18:28

@MsDastardley Thank you so much, I will have a look into them.

Futurehappiness · 02/09/2025 19:08

Thank you so much for all the recommendations and links, this it so helpful. I can do some research from this and select the best options. I may need to budget for this, I suppose the cost may be based on the extent of the condition? In my case there are veins over my cheeks & upper lip though they seem to be in patches rather than all over.

@Katiesaidthat I hadn't considered whether I had rosacea, that may be worth looking into. Apart from this & high colour I don't have a lot of issues with my skin - no breakouts. Though I remember even in my teens being teased about my 'red face' - I am now in my 60s.

OP - I mentioned Thermavein further up, which I had (in London), and it sounds like I have similar issues to yours. I have very pale and slightly sensitive skin, and have always been prone to redness in the cheeks (not rosacea in my case). I’d developed some thread veins over the years but they got more noticeable after menopause. They were patchy, mainly over my cheeks and a few on my nose. When I went for my initial consultation, they said they normally do 6-8 treatments, but I only needed 5, and the results were really good - they’ve disappeared! I used to use a special concealer base under makeup to hide the thread veins, and I no longer have to do that.
The treatment itself is like a tiny needle which targets the individual thread veins under a strong light - it’s a little uncomfortable though not painful, and it only takes about 5 minutes each time (sessions 3-4 weeks apart). Afterwards the skin is quite red for a few hours, but that fades. Like I said, it’s not cheap but I’m really glad I did it.

wand3rer · 22/09/2025 03:12

@JemimaTab Could you recommend a Thermavein specialist in London? 🙏

whentheywereuptheywereup · 26/01/2026 15:11

@Futurehappiness curious to know if you ever found somewhere and got this done. Trying to figure it out for myself atm. Would also love a London-based recommendation if you found one that you were happy with.

Back2TheDrawingBoard · 26/01/2026 16:11

Save yourself £2k and don't bother with thermavein. The veins come back the first time you sneeze/blow your nose !

whentheywereuptheywereup · 26/01/2026 23:04

@Back2TheDrawingBoard sorry to hear that. Where did you get it done?
