Glasses chains… yes or no?

I have reached the point where I need glasses for distance but not for reading or screens. At work I am standing all day and moving about doing various tasks involving both distance and screens, no proper desk/workstation, so I don’t want to take them off as I know I would lose them. I don’t have pockets in my work clothes. So I end up peering over them which looks shit, frankly.
A colleague who is always beautifully dressed has started attaching hers to a chain so they just hang down when not needed. It seems such a good idea, but I have no idea if it will look ridiculous. She is early 50s, and has a pearl chain.
For context I am 47 and fairly small bust, so longer necklaces are fine.
Google informs me that chains are back in, but I have a suspicion I may just look ridiculous. I can remember my mum having a gold glasses chain in the 90s, it was definitely not fashionable!
So, chain or not? And what sort of style would be most on trend?
My work clothes are usually a floral blouse with black trousers, minimal jewellery.

When will MN stop the first poster quoting the OP?!

They've tried to make it less annoying by reducing the size of the quote, but I guess that's all they can do.

I wear my glasses like that as they are on and off all time. Tbh I don't care if people think it looks ridiculous as it's better thanosing or breaking my expensive glasses.

Thanks all, some interesting thoughts! I know it’s probably not especially ‘cool’ but I’m glad to know that I won’t look elderly either.

I have varifocals already, had them 3 years and the distance bit is fine, I just find the lower part now makes screens and books fuzzy. I can see better without them for that. They were so expensive when I got them that I don’t really want to change for this, when the main use (driving) is still perfect, and I can take them off for everything else. I have worn glasses since I was a child for distance, but could wear them all the time no problem until 3 years ago, when I got these and they were great, up to the last month or so. The optician did say that eyes start doing weird things at my age (thanks peri). I really liked the lens, never had any issues other than getting used to moving my eyes and not my head. So worth a go for those unsure. They were soooo pricey though. Have never been able to get on with contacts.

I have got a cheap chain and fabric option from Amazon for now, will see how it goes in work. I guess I can always use it to throttle anyone who takes the piss…
