Guest at Muslim wedding.

I'm looking for a dress to wear to a Muslim wedding. I am a white women. I understanding it should be modest; no cleavage, covered shoulders and below the knee. The bride is wearing sage green. I don't look good in dark colours. I'm considering either of these. Any good?

Uh oh .' modesty' ...the M word....I also don t like that word. If some women dress ' modestly' then the rest of us dress ' immodestly'... with all that implies in terms of wrongness

your hair covered won’t be necessary. Both dresses are fine but you might feel underdressed as there will be so much bling. The women will be decked out with lots of embellishment, jewellery, professional hair and makeup, it’s very different to an English wedding xx

Muslim here. I have NEVER so much as heard of a wedding where non-Muslim guests have covered their heads.

Those dresses are fine by the way. As long as no low necklines or exposed thighs you're OK, those dresses are plenty long enough.

Out of interest, why do some people say that leggings are a bad idea?

What is the purpose of leggings if you already have a long dress ? They look horrendous ; something you would expect a child to wear in cold weather … it’s a fashion faux pas especially at a wedding .

I ended up wearing a very lovely sparkly one and the wedding was wonderful. I'd never seen so much food 😄

Because they are casual items of clothing worn mostly by children. Why wear leggings under a dress in summer? They look bad under a dress in winter never mind at the height of summer.

I see, thanks for replying. Some Muslims wear it though to "halalify" their outfits (not if it's a long dress obviously, but if legs can be seen)

Some do, yes. I personally think it looks crap. Better to get a longer dress than a shorter one with leggings that likely won't even match properly. It's like when someone wears a sleeveless dress with a tight long sleeved t-shirt under it. It just looks wrong imo. Purely my taste though 😄
