Full length rain coat

Hoping some of the wise and stylish mumsnetters might be able to help. I am looking for a long (near enough ankle length) raincoat, fairly lightweight (not puffy), and a loosish fit to allow layers but with some kind of shape to it. Must have a hood because I cannot hold an umbrella while pushing pram and holding 3yo hand. I have lovely Petit Bateau coat atm but have started wearing longer dresses and it just looks a bit odd at knee length. I’d like either black, navy or a clear bright colour (not beige - doesn’t work for me). I love one of the rainsisters ones but cannot afford it; I also quite like the Rains ‘longest’ jackets but again really they are too expensive for me. Am willing to trawl Vinted etc but am struggling to know what to search for…

I have one of these coats.

It's properly waterproof and fully lined, so it's not a clammy coat despite not being breathable, But neither is it a warm coat. There's plenty of room for layers. The back of mine has a deep pleat with a Velcro tab to hold it closed, so it splits open for striding, and generally closes itself up when I'm just standing. I'm 5'8" and it comes to below mid-calf, midi dresses are fully covered.

Have you looked at the Rains on Brand Alley?

Have you looked at riding wear? A browse around shops which sell equestrian equipment might be worth it - I've found the only coats which are long enough and provide enough waterproofness are the ones I've bought to cover me in the saddle.

Seasalt Janelle would fit the bill. I have one and I really like that it's quite light and made for layering.

Ooo thank you so much! Some great suggestions - I quite like the lighthouse ones - and more in my budget!

Thanks for the info on sizing also @OddBoots - I don’t like coats to be too tight - would prefer to layer underneath

Also thank you for the Brand Alley tip @jamnpancakes - I haven’t used them before. There is a nice Rains one there but only in XS. Does anyone have a Rains coat and know about the sizing? I really fall more into the S, but am right on the upper edge of XS - esp for the hip measurement

I have a Rains coat which I love - if you can get one on Vinted or Brand Alley or another reduced price one they are really worth the investment. I find the sizing quite generous - I'm a 12/14 and have a s/m which is loose with plenty room for layering.

I also have a short rains dupe from ASOS just because I wanted a different colour and it's ok for the price tbh. If you look up rubberised rain parka they have a few different colours and it's cheap. Again, nicely oversized for layering and despite it not being the same quality as Rains it's not plastic and sweaty feeling at all.

I'm a bit of a Brands Alley fan at times. 😬
