Thin/thinning hair - what actually works?

I've always had very fine blonde hair. My mum's the same so inherited I guess. However it's definitely thinning not sure if after kids or pre menopause but it's the worst it's ever been. I've tried all the products over the years and had some that give texture and look like yoj have more hair or make your hair appear thicker but haven't found anything that actually gives you more hair growth. Any recommendations?

My hair is similar. I have found that using co-wash instead of shampoo for most washes helps. Umberto Giannini and Adam Reed are the ones I’ve tried. I use a scalp scrub about once a week and a scalp exfoliating treatment about once a month. Plus a ‘menopause’ hair mask. None of this is expensive or too much faff. No silicones.

Im super careful not to wrap my hair too tightly in a towel or anything like that. I had a bit of a bald patch a while ago that I now suspect was traction alopecia.

Supplements (Perfectil or similar) help, HRT, and regular exercise.

Have you tried taking an A-Z vitamin supplement and additional iron? I had to start taking these following surgery and the bonus side effect was that I noticed my hair thickened a little. Not loads, but given that it started thinning in perimenopause over 20 years ago, it was definitely noticeable.

I gave up and got hair extensions. Expensive, but I'd not want to be without them now.

I have the same. My hair’s always fallen out really easily, as well as being fine.

No hair products have ever really helped, apart from highlights which do make my hair look thicker, but are an expensive option!

Supplements more likely to help I think. I have hypothyroidism and some “thyroid support” supplements did help. Not sure if this applies to you??

I’m currently trying iron supplements (as I know I am low on iron) and biotin supplements to see if these help.

I'm mid-fifties & post-menopausal & recently my hair was shedding much more than it used to. I get regular health checks as on HRT, so knew it wasn't low iron/vits, so thought it was some inevitable consequence of menopause. But I stopped drinking alcohol this year & my hair stopped shedding too much. It didn't shed excessively when I was younger & drinking alcohol, so I presume my menopausal/post-menopausal body just couldn't handle alcohol anymore. (I was a very normal weekend drinker before I stopped). So I would suggest getting your nutritional levels checked, as others have suggested & consider giving up alcohol if you do drink.

Honestly for me - fine hair but abundant until I hit peri and had to have it chopped off it was getting so thin. A muti vit with iron, abd biotin. Now growing back beautifully. My hairdresser is gobsmacked by the transformation in just a few months.

I’d go to your GP and say you’re be been concerned by how much hair you’ve lost lately. It could be a sign of thyroid issues, iron etc. your doctor should order some blood tests for you. Then go from there.

Baobab powder makes my hair and nails grow like mad.
I add it into a smoothie every morning.
