Going back into the office after 5 years

I'm going back into the office after 5 years WFH and have no idea what to wear. They say it's a casual office, but I'm naturally scruffy, so jeans and a top on me always looks worse if you know what I mean. Can I have an idea on tops and things to smartern myself up without looking overdone.

Naturally scruffy lol that describes me too. Can I ask your rough age, if you are well endowed like myself on top (makes a big difference to what looks good) and if you have a budget in mind?

I work in a casual office and can feel scruffy too in jeans, however it would also be weird to be overdressed if nobody else is.
I have tried a few things which work well;
Wide leg trousers, Tshirt and ‘nice’ trainers like Vejas.
Jeans paired with flat shoes to balance out the more casual denim.
Midi skirts with a simple top/Tshirt/jumper.

I think it works if you don’t have every element of the outfit as casual. Also ironing work outfits, which I don’t bother with unless 100% necessary otherwise.

I would be more concerned about the accrued debt for the 'Biscuit Tin' money.

Coloured jeans (khaki or burgundy maybe) and a shirt/blouse

I’m a scruffy too :) I would go m&s type black trousers with whatever tops you have, that’s an in between look. Then you can judge what the general look is and switch to jeans if majority are etc

I’m naturally scruffy too, but this week I started a new job and my mum said I look put together!

get two or three pairs of trousers that fit you well - I’ve gone for the M&S high waisted, ankle grazer tapered trousers in neutral, black and navy.

ive got 6 or 7 tops I can rotate with them - t-shirts (black and white) and long sleeved ribbed tops from H&M in chocolate and burgundy, and a couple of knitted tops for when the weather turns.

I just wear adidas spezials but have a pair of black flats that I keep in the office for if they’re needed. Make sure your hair is done and makeup is looking good and you’ll be fine!

I'm naturally scruffy too. I've learned at an embarrassingly late age that the key to not looking scruffy in jeans and tshirt is ironing the tshirt even if it doesn't look it needs ironing and wearing a belt with the jeans. Clean trainers too, i now avoid any with a white sole. I also find it helps to mix the proportions, wide jeans with a fitted top or body suit or tshirt tucked in, or slimmer trousers with a looser top.

When winter comes I will move on to my wardrobe of pleated midi skirts with a roll neck jumper tucked in, nice necklace, and boots. This is still not overdone but looks very put together. I have about 5 skirts and 5 jumpers but most of them go together.

Also naturally scruffy! I work in a casual office and favour a wide-legged trouser (I have various colours and fabrics) and a plain usually black or white t-shirt. Cardigan over if it’s cooler for everyday, blazer over if I’ve got meetings. Boots or trainers or sandals depending on the weather.

Thanks all. I like the tip about fitted t-shirts with wide trousers and baggy tops with skinny fit. I rarely do this and know I should.

I don't own an iron and never will though, so that one ain't going to happen!

So you’re going to look scruffy, anyway!
