I cut up some old t shirts to make t shirt yarn.

I didn't know what I was going to do with it, just couldn't bear to throw the t shirts out.

Anyway, I've knitted most of them up and am surprised by how different the fabrics are. Thought some of you might be interested.

From the bottom:

1 is Gap, really surprised how thin this was.

2 is BHS, again, thin, but an old t shirt.

3 is M&S which was exactly how I wanted the yarn to be, thick and stretchy.

4 is a promo t shirt which was really smooth, thick and knitted up well. It had the advantage of not having any seams but wasn't quite as good a number 3.

I was surprised how t non-white some of them were too.

I've just added number 5 which is Joules then I've another M&S.

I'm hoping to make an origami bag.

That is interesting, thanks op!

Is the Gap T shirt current or from days of yore? If it's an old one then, like you, I'm surprised as I have fond memories of their early noughties T shirts.

It's probably 5-6 years old. Their tees were much thicker 20 years ago.
