Growing out Lord Farquad bob

In May I chopped my hair off to a chin length bob, I've had sort of short-ish hair ever since I had DD a couple of years ago because I thought short hair would be easier to manage (first mistake).

Just before I cut it, it was about down to my collarbone, a bit of an awkward length, and so I impulsively got the chop and I really regret it. This is the shortest it's ever been, and I really do have the Lord Farquad bob! It doesn't do anything for my face shape and I feel growing it out is going to be very awkward.

Does anyone have any tips for growing out a bob or things that can help it to grow more quickly? I have ordered some rosemary oil on a friend's recommendation but have spent all morning looking at hair extensions, sadly I don't think they're an expense I can justify!

Oh no poor you there is nothing worse than being miserable with a haircut, can you blow dry it straight or out? Or clip in extentions might work.

redfox14 · 19/08/2025 11:23

@Coffeeishot even when it's straight it doesn't look quite right, I have quite a long face and I think it sadly just doesn't suit me! I am really debating the clip ins but the ones I've been looking at are over £150!

Work from the inside out; eat well, take vitamins.

In the meantime, tie back or use a claw clip for a half up/half down style? This suits me much better in the in between stage.

Coffeeishot · 19/08/2025 11:25

Even if you get cheaper clip in you could tie your hair up till it grows it shouldn't take too long ,

Coffeeishot · 19/08/2025 11:26

Yes pin it back if it isnt too short.

Ive been growing mine out (not a Bob, short but with long layers) and found thin Alice bands matching my hair colour to be a godsend.

Rocknrollstar · 19/08/2025 11:52

Take hair, skin and nails tablets. They seem to make hair grow quicker

JimmyGiraffe · 19/08/2025 12:17

As soon as you get a little more length, the problem will be solved (I’ve been there!) after six long weeks I felt vaguely presentable again

henlake7 · 19/08/2025 14:49

Im right there with you! (mine is similar at the moment, although my fringe wasnt quite at Farquad levels!😄). Added bonus its also really dry, frizzy and perimenopausal.
Fabric headbands have been a lifesaver for me. I have a bunch of those very wide ones then I just put my hair up in a claw clip and cover everything with a headband. You dont see alot of people wearing them though so I find its best to whack on some make up, dangly earrings and really throw yourself into the quirky, boho vibe.😁

Hopping on as my hair is weirdly bumped out at the bottom just like lord F
il off for a cut tomorrow and don’t know what to ask for to stop the bulky ends

Summerhillsquare · 19/08/2025 15:35

What the heck is a Lord Farquad bob?!

The dreaded triangle hair! Do report back if your stylist has any tips for avoiding this!

redfox14 · 19/08/2025 18:07

Thank you for the recommendations everyone! @Summerhillsquare Lord Farquad from Shrek has an iconic but unfortunate haircut 😂

I've been there! Try tucking it behind your ears and wearing lovely distracting earrings? Try a little puffer bottle of volume powder at the roots ( don't use too much!) Make sure your colour isn't a block/the same early all over. Have some highlights to break it up.
But above all, remember it's hair! It'll grow and change sooner than you think.

CookingFatCat · 19/08/2025 19:25

You can try the inverse method, you lie on your back, head down over side of bed and massage your scalp for five mins every day. Using Rosemary to do this would be even better!

trainedopossum · 20/08/2025 08:17

Jayne Matthews (of Stevie Nicks style razor cutting fame) says using a natural bristle brush helps your hair grow.

wateraddict · 20/08/2025 09:57

OP what kind of brush are you styling it with? A barrel brush will curl it under massively, but a paddle brush may come out straighter without straightening and give a softer styled look, plus maybe look a bit longer. Worth a try?

CookingFatCat · 20/08/2025 11:35

Maybe a side parting, let the volume side sit forward and clip the other side back with a pretty barrette?
