Keratin straigtening experiences

On the back of my frizzy hair thread, I am seriously considering having it done. My hair is just below shoulderlength and reasonably healthy as I've just had 3 inches chopped off. I'd really like to be doing less blowdrying and be able to leave the GHDs in the cupboard to give my hair a break!

Is it damaging to hair? Does it work well? (mine's fairly wiry and utter frizz when it rains) I know you have to use suphate free hair products afterwards, but does the hair feel any different?

Thanks in advance!

Following as I’d love to know

I have mine done regularly. I have a lot of hair that's very wavy/curly and frizzes in damp weather or if I get too hot.
Keratin is fabulous, I have it done around every 4 months. You can't wash it for the first 72 hours. After that, just wash in sulfate free shampoo (I use the brown OGX shampoo and conditioner). My hair is straight, shiny and feels silky. I definitely feel it does my hair good. I can go out in the rain and my hair stays smooth.
I used to have the Brazilian blow dry but that was really harsh and my hair used to break and felt dry.
The only problem with keratin is the price, it's quite expensive but worth every penny.

I had it done a few years ago - I have longish curly hair which turns to frizz at the first sign of damp weather. It does work but I still needed to "style" it (mainly hot brush), but it ruined my hair - bits broke off for ages afterwards. The hairdresser did leave it on for longer than initially suggested (I think she forgot about me!), which might explain the damage. Not sure if I'd have it done again - I manage with a good keratin leave in spray, frizz ease serum and secret agent cream once my hair is dry now.

Thank you for your replies... I get there is a difference between a BBD and Keratin straightening... how do I check my salon does the latter... is the process different ?

I get a Brazilian Blow Dry every six months and have for over 5 years now. I absolutely love it and my hair is in great condition. I don't colour it though as I do think that would be too many chemicals on my hair.

It just smooths out my thick, frizzy natural mess and keeps it manageable.....and no need for straighteners.

You have to avoid shampoo and conditioner that has sulfates, silicones and salt. That was my hairdressers advice and she's right because I can stretch to just having it done twice a year as long as I keep to that routine. It can be a bit of a pain to find products (mainly the salt as that seems to be in most shampoo and conditioner as a thickening agent.) But Sukin does a couple of good options as well as Head and Shoulders Bare or the Garnier Hair Food conditioner.

I do my own, about every six months.
i get the treatment from Amazon!
my hair is naturally wavy and frizzy, i love the keratin treatment. Mine is straight for about a month after, then the wav comes back a bit which I like.
it stays fairly frizz free for months.

I had it done in the salon twice, then did my own with the Amazon purple box a few more times. I loved the results at first, but then my hair became damaged and had a weird oily finish to it so I stopped. It was fab at first though.

I love keratin treatment. I have it done every 6 months and it makes my formerly frizzy unmanageable corkscrew curls straight and silky. I can let it dry naturally or do a quick blow dry - I rarely use straighteners now. I use sulphate free shampoo and conditioner too.

Catsonskis · 17/08/2025 21:41

I’m interested in doing this treatment, like many of you - owner of thick, volumous frizzy would-be-curls!

my question is, can you still style it with curlers/wand after for curls or are you straight haired only for the duration of the treatment

Please could you add a link to the products. Thank you.
