Using the same hairdresser for a long time do you feel taken for granted or still a valued client .

I’ve been to the hairdresser this afternoon and am really disappointed. I’ve been to the same salon for a few years now and generally been pleased .
Today my hair had to be washed again once part dry because product was left in it making it sticky and unmanageable. Then when that was sorted I never got asked what I wanted , how much taken off or how I wanted it styled / dried .
It wasn’t cut properly, just thinned out so the layers are the same length and it was dried like curtains which I hate .

Thinking about it he runs a really social salon where everyone is a regular but it seems like a conveyor belt , all the women left with curtain styles .
I could kick myself for not saying more , it’s really difficult when you are treated like a friend. I’ve rebooked but I’m not sure whether to cancel .

What's a curtain style?

I think it might be time to move on. I think you out grow an hairdressers every few years.

No can't say I do. Me and my hairdresser always have a mini consultation when I go in of what I want OR if I'm considering going darker/blonder next time and tell her at that appointment she tells me to message her when I know before I next go, so she can change appointment time if necessary.

I love my hairdresser.
I've had the same one for eight years and she's brilliant.
She comes to my house, and also cuts DH's hair.

It costs £25 and we give her £5 tip.

I LOVE my hairdresser! She has been cutting my hair for 24 years, and going to see her is like seeing an old friend! She knows exactly what to do with my hair, and I trust her completely. She always makes me feel like royalty when I go!

This happened to me too. I started using another salon which I love but I feel awful about my old hairdresser- like I’m cheating on them 😂

Haha yes it’s this weird loyalty isn’t it . I need to find someone else I think , I do want someone who asks what I want and listens . My layers haven’t been cut so I can’t style my hair as I usually would so very disappointed .

My hairdresser asks every visit what I want. She asks how the last cut went and if I want anything different. So no, she doesn’t take me for granted or give me a cookie cutter hairstyle. I think you need to try someone new.

TheOGCCL · 15/08/2025 22:31

I think it's easy for anyone to start making less effort and taking you for granted. They think you'll stay regardless. No problem just to go somewhere else for a try.

My hairdresser has never given me the same cut in over 8 years of going so always a discussion about what's going to be done. And sometimes she messages to ask how I'm finding a cut.

Gosh, I love my hairdresser. Have been seeing her for almost 20 years now. Am not the most regular client, only going two or three times a year. She won't let me tip her either as she knows money is usually tight for me. Even though I invariably have more or less the same thing, she always consults with me at length beforehand. Most recently, when I was diagnosed with cancer and learned I needed chemo, she invited me into the salon and shaved my hair to a grade 2. Not only did she take her time and do it with the utmost care, she didn't charge me a penny.

Even now I am in remission, still growing my hair back and made it clear it will be quite a while before I am back to see her, she still texts me to see how I am. She also has offered a free trim too. She's wonderful, as is the salon she rents her chair in. .

This eventually happens to me with every hairdresser I've ever had. They always seem to get a bit careless and more sloppy over time. I've had the same issue with physiotherapists as well (paying privately). Started out great, but once we knew each other better they started spending more and more time just chatting to me and not getting on with the treatment.

Exactly, lose sight of the fact I’m a paying customer . I’ve decided to look elsewhere .

I've recently left my hairdresser of 15 years...
I felt taken for granted and messed around.
My new hairdresser takes bookings online, I can pay by debit card and its cheaper!
