Pre-teen shaving (electric razor recommendations)and spots (boy)

(Pls feel free to redirect me if there is a more appropriate section for this!)

My preteen boy is probably needing to have a first shave and sort his mono brow. His DF only uses electric razor so we are thinking of getting DS one and going down that route. Are there any recommendations for a first electric razor for a child? Or is it quite a bad idea for his skin?

He also has the odd little spot now which we’ve been letting clear up on own. He washes with water only. Any products or routines you’d recommend for young skin? I’ve heard “spots and strips” is good but it’s also quite pricy.

I got the Philips OneBlade shaver for DS when he was around 13/14 and he has been using it ever since! (he's 18 now)

<edited to answer second part of your question> DS and teen DD both rated the Cerave spot treatment but it doesn't seem to be available anymore. They are using spot patches now and good old sudocrem (at night, when nobody can see them!)

Same thing with my DS. Need some advice on spots. So far just tried cerave wash which hasn't done much.

RealUnicorns · 13/08/2025 12:41

Does sudocreme work - if never thought of this? I was lucky without many spots so not clued up at all in how best to treat quickly.

My DS is younger and only has a small but noticeable moustache for now so maybe electric is too much until hitting teens properly but then again if needs shave as well starting now with right products.

Hi can't advise shaver as just started looking ourselves. But our pre-teen uses the clearasil wipes (superdrug stock them) and over night uses dots for spots. Doesn't stop all breakouts but helps the worst ones.

I got a Phillips One Blade for my autistic son, works a treat

I bought Cerave for both my son and daughter and a tub lasts a while. It sometimes pops up at 25% off at places like Boots and Superdrug. My son was initially puzzled but explained that it washes away sweat and the hair product that might have come in contact with his skin too.

Dd went straight to tweezing to sort her monobrow. She was a similar age to your son when someone at school mentioned it and she overplucked them massively. If she’d told me I would have had them waxed or something. Luckily they grew back and she has good brows now but it was a shock.

My ds also uses a Phillips One Blade for shaving.
These Cerave products are good for teenage spotty skin.

For DS preteen we have been using Veet cream for monobrow and poss upper lip, although we need to look at better options for upper lip. We have been using a fine manscaping thing for upper lip, but will look into what the other people are mentioning on here. Thankfully his don’t grow fast and Veet keeps it down for a couple of months.

For spots we purchased a Boots Tea Tree facial wash (handy pump action and the liquid comes out as a foam), plus in the same range they have a one spot applicator pen for Day and Night and Dots for Spots (for angry spots it can aid overnight action if the spot has been gently squeezed or skin slightly broken as this then works faster, but not necessary). I wonder if this range will be good if they get very bad, but so far daily use of face wash seems to be keeping most at bay. Just pay attention to T section of face and around the hairline.
