How do you deal with growing out your hair colour??!!

My hair used to be dark blonde with a lot of grey, so for years I coloured it blonde with a home box dye. Now with age, it's turning silvery blonde, with a very blonde streak at the front, which is actually quite nice, so I'd like to grow it out and see how it looks naturally. The problem is that I now have silver blonde roots (my own colour) and a brassy blonde further down. Normally I wouldn't care as I work from home, but I'm going on holiday soon, and this isn't a great look. Any ideas? A temporary colour? I don't want to lose what I've grown out so far by throwing a permanent dye on it, as I have about 3 inches now of natural roots.

I used the root cover up sprays (which look ok for first two inches of regrowth max ime) then tolerated it until the grey was long enough for a not too short crop. I am currently sporting a very shaggy crop as I grow out the layers.
I quite like the grey but it's all a bit of a faff.

I'd get the colour professionally stripped out and see what's there.

This is a good idea!

If you’re wanting to lose the brassiness further down I’d use a purple shampoo and conditioner once a week

When I noticed mine becoming a slivery white, I got the colour stripped and then toned

Also got a new style to cut out as much of the old hair as possible and just went with that. Took about 9 months before all my hair ( lack of ) colour was my own - and I was customer facing :)

That sounds interesting - I've been growing mine out for 10 months now but it's long so there's a lot of the old died blonde still. Doesn't the colour stripping dry out the hair though? I'm curly with very dry hair and I'd be worried the condition would suffer...

Get a good cut , it's going to be shorter than you'd like for a while.

The purple shampoo does even out the colour

I never noticed it to be dry. But as @justasking111 has said, a really good cuts will really help. I went for an undercut so the darkest of the hair was taken out and let the top - whiter hair cover it -so I didn't have to keep with the toning. I dont know what the style is called - a shaggy pixie undercut? Whatever it was/is called, it suits my face shape and is so easy to work with.

I cant use the purple shampoos , they really dry my scalp - I have seb derm, so my main trouble is keeping the white bright - esp as I work in a kitchen. Means I have to wear a hat in the sun and kitchen and use a sun protection leave in conditioner

I love my grey now. I thought it was going to be course and wiry but nope it's soft and fine. I can now go three days between washes - when I coloured it was every day

I cut mine much shorter which really helped even the colour overall
