I want to change the way I shop- would this work?

I’m fed up of having loads of clothes but feeling like I have nothing to wear. I feel like I just buy stuff ad hoc and nothing goes with anything else and I have lots of nice individual pieces but not coherent outfits and not enough basics.

so, I have a plan but not sure if it will work or if anyone else does this.

Say I put aside £100 a month or so. Then every 6 months at the start of s/s and a/w, I spend everything I have accrued on a seasonal wardrobe and buy it all in one go- would that work better? Or would I still end up buying stuff as I go through the year?

Have you ever considered looking at Project 333? It address the problem that a lot of us have with having too many clothes yet nothing to wear. It's seasonal too.

I love the idea of doing this but I don't think it would be as easy as just going shopping these days unfortunately. 20 years ago I could easily go into my local city and come back with bag fulls these days I struggle with most things and end up with weeks of returns etc waiting for refunds and get fed up and end up keeping with the same old clobber.

I have been doing this for about 2-3 years. It is an absolute game changer.

How about a personal shopper every 6 months for one decent outfit

Can anyone remember that really good thread where a woman had a spreadsheet and listed all the things she would need for the year? I think she was in Australia.

It was called “in pursuit of” something I think. I loved that thread.

I do something like this. As the season approaches, I begin to make a list of which pieces I need. This year, I don't have much on it beyond a couple of pairs of work shoes, a burgundy or navy blue work bag, a dark brown casual handbag, and a thin black cashmere sweater, then perhaps one new work outfit, and some new casual things for wearing at home. I have a personal shopper to do my shopping for me, but you could easily do this yourself. I will do this for autumn/winter and then again for spring/summer.
It also relieves me of the urge to always be shopping. It is still tempting - say, when the new MeAndEm advertisement catalogue arrives - but I know I have everything I need.
It is freeing, plus I know I have everything I need and that everything works in outfits. I don't find myself in the situation of not being able to wear a certain blouse, because I don't have the right trousers, or unable to wear a pair of trousers I like, because I don't have the right shoes.
