Glasses: new prescription in old frames recommendation

Wasn't sure where to post this, but can anyone recommend an online company that will upgrade old glasses with new prescription please?

They probably won’t because they can’t guarantee not to not break the frame. If they break, bend or damage their own supplied frame they can replace it. If you supply it and they break it, they likely can’t replace it.

My optician will always do this for me - is there any reason you can’t just go to your own optician? Or any optician near you, really. Is there any particular reason why you want it done online?

(It is always at my own risk - they always say they can’t 100% guarantee the frames won’t break, especially if they are quite old. But I’ve never had a frame break yet).

Any optician I've been to will do it. But, any time I've done it, they've broken within a couple of months, so I always buy new frames now, and just keep the old ones as my backup pair in case of accident.

I went to Vision Express and the price started at £75, so cheaper to buy new basic pair for a spare pair. Just seems so wasteful!

I had a beautiful Frame 2 years ago, absolutely adored it. New prescription required, asked how much to have it fitted to the old frame - near on £200 more then a brand new frame and lens ( taking into account all the discounts offered )

So I looked online, and it was a no go - I do have a complex prescription btw - but I was looking the guts of £400

It is worth looking at getting glasses from Cubitts as they can repair their own glasses if needed and you can have new lenses put in.

It’s fairly common now to buy used frames and get them reglazed. I think spec savers might do it. For frames costing lots, of course you don’t throw them away. I’ve had several pairs deglazed and all have been perfect but they were very good frames! I don’t use them as spares either. They are part of what I might wear each day.

ASDA opticians put new lenses in mine.

For my eyes, it’s the lenses that cost £££ and the frames always pale into insignificance no matter what brand I choose. So £75 for new lenses sounds like a bargain to me!

But I appreciate that lots of the high street chains and online places offer complete pairs for less than that.

Keep your current pair as a spare set and buy a brand new pair?
