Travelling within the UK - what jacket?

Apologies in advance as I realise that this is probably a ridiculous question.

I will be travelling - air then hire car - just within the uk, to the south, late August. I rarely travel. I wear casual - jeans, T-shirts, thin jumpers, trainers, etc. and quite happy with those for the journey.

But What do people wear these days for the top half? Cardigan seems dull and boring, waterproof thin jacket doesn’t seem right as it’s a proper hiking one, I don’t have a blazer, hoodie, or anything else so with a complete open mind, and a modest budget say up to £60 please can you help dress me so I will be comfortable but look ok? I’m 60+ and around size 16.

For what occasion? For being on holiday doing what? Are you looking for something for going to the beach or a museum or going out for nice lunches or visiting castles or sitting round family homes?

Unless you are doing something particularly formal then whatever you normally wear would be fine with a waterproof available if you need it.

Just whatever clothes you'd normally wear if you weren't going away.

This summer I have pretty much exclusively worn a cream shacket (of a denim-weight fabric). Warm enough when it’s breezy but cool enough when the sun shines. You could get a light package raincoat to wear over the top in a shower. A waterproof coat would have been too hot to wear most days.

Holiday - coastal walks and towns/villages. Nothing formal. I’m in the north of Scotland so am often in fleeces, gilets, etc. and have decent waterproof jacket.

Then you have everything you need!

If it’s U.K. you need to be prepared for any weather eventuality. I’d take my Uniqlo lightweight down jacket and a small waterproof you can roll up, plus a hoody and a sweater.
