I’d like a blazer/ blazer-type jacket that will work over lots of different work outfits for the days when I need to look smarter. I suit greys and blues rather than brown tones. Anything you’ve liked the look of?

I’m petite so arm length is an issue but I bought 3 different colours in the M&S rouched sleeve jackets. Divisions of opinions on here about rolling jacket sleeves up etc BUT the casual shape works for me as I’m in tech and sleeves around my wrists piss me off when using the laptop all the time.

Impossible to make helpful suggestions without knowing your budget and clothing size. And what sort of working environment - court, school, farm office?

I’d say it’s a fairly classic smart casual office environment. Pre-pandemic you’d see a lot of suits and smart dresses, now you’ll only rarely see a tie and there’s a lot more of a range, though plenty of people who choose to go smart. For higher-profile meetings ie with senior corporate/ government stakeholders, jackets/ blazers are common though not ‘mandatory’. I think for e.g. The Fold makes beautiful clothes but most of it would probably look excessive in my workplace these days.

I personally like to have specific ‘work clothes’ and to dress smarter in the office than I do in my downtime, though I’ll wear for e.g. trainers to the office now in a way I probably wouldn’t have pre-pandemic. I typically wear smart trousers in various blues, camels, greys etc, sometimes black and sometimes more linen-y materials or cropped when it’s warmer. Coupled with shirts, boxy t shirts etc. Knitwear in the winter. If I wear a dress it’s more likely to be a boxy sixties shape or a shirt dress than anything more flouncy. Basically I’m trying to find a way of looking sharp and polished that nevertheless doesn’t feel stuck pre-pandemic (maybe that’s worthy of a thread on its own!)

Im about 5 foot 5 and a size 10-12 (12 realistically). Former hourglass now a bit more apple post kids. Late thirties.

Budget of up to maybe £300 but will also happily take recs for hunting on Vinted.

I’ve got a really nice one from new look of all places! Soft and more jersey type fabric and it goes with lots of different things.
