Would you have first ever botox a few days before holiday abroad?

Going away for 2 weeks - was wondering if this would be OK?

No

AndyMcFlurry · 08/08/2025 20:02

No. What if you have bruises ( normal ) or a bad reaction ( less normal but it happens)?

Have you asked the person who is doing the Botox?

troppibambini6 · 08/08/2025 21:56

Yes I probably would but I’m pretty blasé about it now. The only thing I would check is whether the practitioner is happy for you going back for your top up (if needed) a little after 2 weeks.

BUMCHEESE · 08/08/2025 21:57

Nope

I had weird eyelids for 4-5 days after

HelloHattie · 08/08/2025 21:58

No I wouldn’t fly within 2 weeks of having it. I’m sure I’ve heard you’re not supposed to fly for a week and I’d give it two to be sure.

Doggerty · 08/08/2025 22:15

Thanks thats helpful. Not mentioned to my dentist that I am going away.

Jesus who did your Botox? I’ve been having Botox for about 6 years and never have I had “weird eyelids”

Travelling by car and ferry.

You’ll be fine. Usually they see you for a top up after 2 weeks but it can be done up to 3 weeks after. You may not want / need it at all but they usually review. I’ve had it done and then flown and seen my practitioner when i got back before.

thaisweetchill · 08/08/2025 22:24

You don’t see a difference until week 2 so would be a bit pointless

I dont want it to kick in on holiday but for a wedding I have a week after I return - which would then be a week after the 2 week top up?

Well I had Botox all over the scalp for excessive sweating (NHS so I’ve no idea of the strength etc) and whilst it was agonisingly painful (seriously!) I was sweating immediately after and there was no stinging from the sweat if that’s what you’re worried about? No guidance to avoid sun but then of course there’s hair on my scalp! If they do tell you to avoid sun then just pop some SPF 50 on

omg I apologise profusely for the repeated posts! I’m in a caravan on holiday and barely any signal. It didn’t tell me it had posted!

TheSybil · 08/08/2025 23:25

I had botox for the first time the day before flying to Italy. No issues at all

Mine kicks in within 3 days usually

Same, I see results very quickly. I think you’ll be fine, OP. Have you had a consultation yet? What did the clinic advise?

I‘ve had to delay my reviews occasionally and it hasn’t been a problem. Never had any bruising or swelling.

lollydu · 09/08/2025 08:24

I’ve done it, had it Monday flew Wednesday. It was fine. I’ve had it a few times before though and trust my practitioner x

PaddlingSwan · 09/08/2025 08:38

Definitely not and not done by a dentist either - had that once and never again.
Go to a qualified doctor with years of experience in aesthetic medicine.

jeaux90 · 09/08/2025 11:34

It depends where you are having it but I’m super blasé about botox now have years of doing it.

However I would never have it done by my dentist, highly qualified practitioners that have years of experience doing it day in and out is the only way I go.

TheFlis · 09/08/2025 11:41

Absolutely not. What if you have a negative reaction and can’t go? Or worse, you have issues while away? I doubt travel insurance would cover either scenario.

Busbygirl · 09/08/2025 11:52

You’ll be fine.
A dentist is probably the best practitioner to go to for it.
They’re specialists in the head and neck region and have had years of experience studying the muscles and anatomy of the face. Ignore the poster who said no to the dentist.
