Help! In Search of Good Quality, Tall Women's Clothes

Hello!

I've been in a never-ending search for tall ranges of clothes my entire adult life. I'm 5'10, with a 34"-36" inside leg, so not exceptionally tall. However with a long torso too, I am too tall for most main clothing ranges.

I usually shop at Long Tall Sally or the tall ranges of the big high street stores (Next, ASOS, occasionally New Look and Dorothy Perkins).

However I'm really really fed up of everything being really cheap, poor quality or synthetic fabric. I'm now in my 30s and want a bit of quality! But I just can't find it anywhere.

I am really happy to pay more, buy fewer items, investing in a wardrobe that looks and feels nice.

Where do other tall women get their nice clothes from?

And as a side note - I'm not looking for occassion wear. I need clothes to go out for a coffee in, go to the shops or out for a nice lunch. For some reason I can find loads of tall fancy frocks - but nothing for the other 99% of my life that I actually need to be clothed for.

Holland Cooper is great for good quality and intrinsically tall cut. Depends if it’s your kind of thing, but I was delighted to have to hem trousers up by several inches, and tried on a bodysuit which was plenty long enough in the torso

Pinkballoon5 · 08/08/2025 16:55

I'm 5 11. I tend to get designer preworn jeans on eBay, search by desired brand, waist and leg length.

ApoodlecalledPenny · 08/08/2025 17:09

Me + Em make me (5’6”) look like a child playing dress up, so they might be worth a look

HundredMilesAnHour · 08/08/2025 17:20

Your torso sounds in proportion to your height to me? I’m 5’9 with inside leg 33-34 and no one has ever suggested my torso is out of proportion. In fact usually people admire my long legs (while I say thanks but the downside is also having gorilla length arms 😂)

Depending on your budget, have a look at Moloh for jackets and trousers. The quality is exceptional (but so are the prices, even in the sale) and the arms and legs work for longer limbs. The current model they’re using is 5’10.

Issey Miyake Pleats Please is great as clothes are sized based on height (as everything is stretchy so it’s length that matters rather than width). You’ll be a size 5 at your height. I’m addicted to Pleats Please as everything is machine washable, doesn’t need ironing and can be screwed up in a bag and still looks great. Depends whether it suits your taste / style.

For jeans, go to Hiut or Blackhorse Lane Ateliers. Both do 36 inch legs and they will last you a lifetime (Blackhorse even often free lifetime repairs).

Here's a starter for 13 @DeedlessIndeed 😊

Similar height and inner leg and found Arket a good fit.

thedevilinablackdress · 08/08/2025 18:43

Seasalt do a Tall range. Decent fabrics, the florals are not too everyone's taste but I find plenty of plain and striped things I like.

DeedlessIndeed · 09/08/2025 18:24

Thanks everyone, some great places to start hunting.

I definitely have a longer torso than average. Regular T shirts from most shops come up to the middle of my bellybutton, even if I size up to the point they are hilariously wide.

The waistlines on dresses cut just under my boobs which means that even going for a midi/maxi dress doesn't fit right on the bodice. Turns every A-line dress into an empire line affair. 😔

I do have a dress from seasalt. The prints aren't my thing but I like some of their plain / denim pieces. I'll take another look - thank you.

Any more suggestions are so very welcome. But thanks all for the help so far.

My friend flies to Amsterdam twice a year to stock up!

Such a short flight she can go for a day of shopping.

HundredMilesAnHour · 09/08/2025 18:53

@DeedlessIndeed Well of course you have a longer torso than average. You’re taller than average! That doesn’t mean that you’re not in proportion for your height.

Shopping at most high street shops will leave you feeling like some sort of freakish giant because most of them design/cut for much shorter women because 1)the average woman is a fair bit shorter and 2)using less fabric is cheaper for them. They don’t really care about taller woman as that’s not where sales volumes are. Also be wary of some high street ‘tall’ ranges as for some of them that just means they make clothes longer but they don’t actually alter the proportions (because that makes it more expensive) which will be why you find so many ‘empire line dresses’ shopping there.

If you start shopping at more mid-high end brands, you will notice the difference. They tend to cater for taller woman and their expectation is that shorter women get things altered if they’re too long. Because their focus is much more on quality and cut (which is why you’re paying a premium) and actually fitting a woman’s body. Rather than knocking out high volumes of cheaper items. Of course this means buying fewer clothes due to increased cost but they will last longer and look much better as well as actually fitting your proportions! Vinted is your friend here. Once you find a few brands that fit you well, Vinted is a great hunting ground. This morning I collected a Pleats Please long sleeved blouse I bought on Vinted. Oh my joy at the sleeves being easily full length on me. 😍For some reason it reminded me of years ago when Zara and Mango first opened in the UK and everyone was raving about them. I quickly realised that they were designed for the shorter Spanish frame so buying pretty much anything with legs, sleeves or a defined waistline was out for me. In hindsight it probably did me a favour. I stopped shopping on the high street a long time ago and I don’t regret it for a moment.

Look for Scandinavian and/or German brands as they’re usually cut for taller women.

Some Massimo Dutti trousers are extra long. Patience required to find them though. Their tops are for short torsos though, at least shorter than mine, but arket and COS tops are generally cut longer.

@DeedlessIndeed , I definitely have a longer torso than average. I'm the average height (Average human height by country - Wikipedia UK woman). I find regular t-shirts ar often too short for me.
(Men's are usually longer and better quality)

gegs73 · 28/01/2026 18:13

I’m 5’10 and have around a 34’ leg. Have you tried M&S for trousers and jeans? Their long length is often trailing over the floor for me and I have to buy regular. If the sizes aren’t in store, they have everything online.

Tops to fit long bodies are very annoying. I trial and error to see what looks ok and hope to strike lucky.

RobinEllacotStrike · 28/01/2026 18:59

I have problems with sleeve lengthin womens clothing & I'm not even very tall.
Mens jumpers/jackets etc are always a delight as the sleeves are a good length.

Great shout - Funnily enough I tried on a couple of pairs of long jeans in M&S not long after this post and found they were decent length. Bought some wide leg and flared jeans.

It is a bit trial and error, some styles seems more generous in length whereas others cut off weirdly. I've been converted to actually going into store and trying them on.

It is indeed trial and error. I'm only a 33" inside leg but had to let down my M&S 12L wideleg cords, and annoyingly they still flap a bit ('immobility' being my ultimate test!) On the other hand, I trip over my Boden 12L Westbourne Ponte Trousers.

Try Jumping Ships for good quality tall tops and bottoms
