Eyes ageing me

I feel like my eyes look many many years older than I am. How old would you guess I am from the photos?

I admit I put next to no effort into skincare or make-up, but it's now getting to me. First photo is from first thing in the morning, the second is having put some basic moisturiser on after a shower.

My skin is really quite sensitive, incredibly dry and flakey (have to clean my glasses multiple times a day to clear the skin flakes off them...).

What should I do or use to a) improve my skin and b) help me not look decades older than I am?

I used to get my eyebrows shaped and would sometimes have eyelash tints so it didn't matter if I didn't bother with mascara. Any other tips for someone with little time or drive to do a full face each morning?

Which eyes should we be looking at?

Rattai · 07/08/2025 21:33

I would guess at 45. But I think drinking more water and a good eye cream might help

Tinkerbellflowers · 07/08/2025 21:43

One picture you look early 30s, the other picture maybe mid 50s. They look very different on my screen.

BatchCookBabe · 07/08/2025 21:54

The woman in Pic 1 looks like 40-42-ish, and the woman in Pic 2 looks in her early-mid 60s. The skin around the eyes looks different on the 2 pics @ECPCR2

Soooo, which one do you actually look like........? Confused

Mwnci123 · 07/08/2025 21:56

I don't think you look old. I'm mid 40s and my eyes look older than yours- hooded, asymmetrically droopy, bags (this is me, not you!). You just look like you're in your 30s and have something going on with the skin around your eyes. I had a really dry patch on an eyelid that cleared up with Vaseline/ Lanolips.

slowgraffiti · 07/08/2025 21:57

I think you may have an allergic reaction- mine went like this about a year ago, and I have had to change all my products (even hair products) to hypoallergenic ones. Even the limescale in the water can set it off- although it’s much improved since I switched products. Dry and flaky skin also suggests you may have an allergy of some sort. Mine was diagnosed as blepharitis at first, but it wasn’t.

I put Vaseline on every night which also helps.

3KidsPlusDdog · 07/08/2025 21:58

You look about the same age as me, so, mid 40s.

Coconutter24 · 07/08/2025 22:00

The first pic looks around early 40s. The other pics looks around 60. I’d be interested to know what basic moisturiser you used to make that difference!

NewsdeskJC · 07/08/2025 22:05

Mid to late 50s

ECPCR2 · 07/08/2025 22:06

I can assure you they're both me haha

I'd say the far more wrinkled and dry one is what they look at most of the time

I agree that hydration could be the key given the one post-shower is being aged about 20 years younger than the other!

I do drink plenty of water in the day. But is this where a good quality, hydrating eye cream for dry skin will play its part?

I agree. Allergy.

You don't look old as such, I would think you had eczema around the eyes.

Daisydoesnt · 08/08/2025 16:17

OP I have skin like around your eyes and I’d definitely say you have some kind of sensitivity/ contact dermatitis. Get yourself to Natural Elements! Their skincare is amazing for sensitive skin, and you can buy little sample pots to check it suits your skin. I use all their hypoallergenic range, it’s totally cleared up my sensitive skin. In particular the Restoration serum around my eyes has been transformative. I can’t recommend enough!! www.naturalelementsskincare.com/pages/blepharitis-sore-dry-eyelid-dermatitis-eczema?_pos=6&_sid=d254133ff&_ss=r

ECPCR2 · 08/08/2025 19:53

Thanks all. I do suffer from eczema elsewhere, and have had flare-ups on my eyes although often it's much more red and raw rather than just the dryness right now.

Shall try Vaseline or the Natural Elements creams for eyes.

Are creams and serums to help with the saggy/wrinkly skin likely to just make it worse given sensitivity? Are there any plumping type magic solutions that are ok for sensitive super dry skin?

Daisydoesnt · 09/08/2025 10:26

Honestly OP you’re (as you describe it) saggy/ wrinkly skin is a result of the dermatitis. I bet my house that once that settles down the skin around your eyes will be transformed. It took about 20 years off me! It’s not a cream or serum you need for dryness - it’s something to heal the hyper sensitivity.

At least get some tester - samples and give it a go? And in the meantime, stop using anything other than water on your face and don’t let shampoo - shower gel run across your face: it will add to the irritation!! You can tell that because your skin looks worse in the post- shower pics than when you first get up!!

edited to add- and stop using that moisturiser- you can see your skin is crying out that it is allergic to it, just by looking at the before and after pictures!!!

BusterGonad · 09/08/2025 13:13

I haven't read all the responses, sorry, but I have very similar to you if I don't use the right cream. I currently use Seba med pro revitalising eye cream it has probiotic in it which is exactly what fixes my delicate skin barrier. Previously I used The Body Shop Aloe Vera, with probiotic but I don't think they make it anymore.

Pieceofpurplesky · 09/08/2025 13:20

You have more wrinkles than me but less hooding - so my age? 56? On the other one I would say 40 something.
I drink lots of water

Allseeingallknowing · 09/08/2025 13:39

Fifties

cannyvalley · 09/08/2025 14:11

Defo eczema or some kind of allergy/reaction. Try some very gentle hypoallergenic products and be super careful with letting shampoo etc run in your face in the shower.

Pieceofpurplesky · 09/08/2025 21:52

How old are you OP?

ECPCR2 · 09/08/2025 21:58

I'm 35

Given almost everyone has put me about 10 if not 20+ years older, I really need to find something that helps!

I also think you might have some kind of allergic reaction going on. I have been dealing with one the last couple of years and it makes my eyes look just like the second picture. The puffiness looks like inflammation, not just signs of ageing. I had to change all my skincare to get them back to normal. Now I use cetapaphil cleanser and a moisturiser by avene.

OudAndRose · 09/08/2025 22:07

Are they also better after waking? When mine get puffy due to the allergic reaction they are at their worst after lying down to sleep all night.
