Honestly. I'm 47. I started at the gym grotesquely overweight last year. Went to Sports Direct and bought some underarmour and LA Fitness (I think) and they were really good thick material that held up to my fatness. Now I've lost half what I want to I've bought some Vanquish which I really like (NOT scrunchy bum things).

livingthatlifevondutch · 03/08/2025 19:56

Can’t go wrong with Sweaty Betty. I have found Born Nouli is fantastic quality as well and a bit cheaper.

These days I am loving cycling shorts with a loose ish top for my workouts.

Britpopbaby · 03/08/2025 20:10

Charity shops are worth checking out if you want new then look at the M&S Good Move range.

evilharpy · 03/08/2025 20:27

I have recently discovered Gym+Coffee, the leggings are really supportive and definitely hold everything in. I'm a 10 in most shops and wear a M in their leggings.

itsgettingweird · 03/08/2025 20:33

M and s good move

matalan sports range is really good and I have loads of their stuff. Their t shirts are a good length too.

Tu also have a really good range and I have some lovely thinner jumpers from there and some running shorts

Tinseltrauma · 03/08/2025 20:34

Sweaty Betty (often loads on Vinted), get Power leggings for better holding in properties! And M and S Good Move as an alternative.

doodleschnoodle · 03/08/2025 20:36

Love Sweaty Betty. Power leggings and the seamless tops. I use them for spin classes, weights, Pilates, yoga, everything!

doodleschnoodle · 03/08/2025 20:37

Oh and Fabletics leggings are good but it’s a subscription so make sure you cancel after the first order. You can get two pairs for like £20 for your first order though.

And HappyStride if you like patterns!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 03/08/2025 20:38

M&S good move
matalan fitness range
the cheeky magpie
llama leisure.

all excellent for leggings, shorts and t shirts of all designs. Although cheeky magpie leggings are longer than the others. The last two often have 3for the price of 2 etc type sales.

CortieTat · 03/08/2025 21:02

Shock Absorber bra, the rest doesn’t matter. I like leggings with a back pocket to put the phone in but I run on trails so need a way of contacting people in case of emergency.

CatKings · 03/08/2025 21:06

I got a good sports T-shirt in matalan. It’s nice and big. So much of the stuff I’ve seen is so skimpy.

TheChosenTwo · 03/08/2025 22:26

I swear by sweaty Betty power leggings for gym and running, they just don’t budge a single cm on me, 100% squat proof and wash well.
i got some Lulu lemon leggings for reformer Pilates and they’re so comfy and soft (but wore them for running once and they are absolutely not fit for that purpose!!).
Shock absorber sports bra is the best I’ve found.
Tshirts I get from adidas or Nike, there’s an outlet near me and probably once every couple of years I will go and pick up a handful to replace the old ones.
I must say though, I’m not fussed about what I look like when I’m in the gym or doing any kind of exercise but the clothes must be suited and not make me feel like they’re moving/riding up/falling down otherwise I won’t wear them again. Functionality over everything!

Not sure I'm brave enough for shorts in public

Sweaty Betty Power leggings are fantastic.

I'd get them from Vinted because they've changed the recipe recently and the more modern ones aren't as good, so not worth buying new.

I hate the M&S Good Move range - really bad quality and just don't fit very well.

These are quite good and claim to be squatproof. I've got some Llama leisure summer ones which are not squatproof and was wondering whether to go for their active wear ones because I like the patterns.

I keep seeing scrunchy leggings - what's that all about??? what is scrunch??

where they scrunch in the bum - allegedly to make the bum look better. Personally I could not think of anything worse.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 04/08/2025 11:30

I’ve bought shorts and leggings off Amazon which have been awesome. Definitely squat proof and really good value.

T shirts, I bought from next. Mine are a bit big now but a nice length that covers my bum. Just own brand Next gym tops, about £20 each.

ffsgloria · 04/08/2025 11:31

I'm currently wearing H&M soft move leggings, they're great and I've tried loads of leggings over the last few years! I did used to rate the Sweaty Betty Power leggings too but prefer the H&M ones now. Tops I tend to go for racer back vests, from H&M too, or the Gym Shark everyday racer back vest is also good.

Edited to add I get padded high impact bras from Decathlon, they've survived a lot of washes.

that sounds mighty uncomfortable 😂

showyourquality · 04/08/2025 13:51

I don’t love sweaty Betty but I’ve read on here the new stuff isn’t as good. I quite like M&S and the GAP group ( gap, old navy and Athena) Although pricey I also like Lululemon.

FourBlackCats · 04/08/2025 14:36

LNDR leggings are the best ones I’ve had - pricey though. Agree with others that Sweaty Betty aren’t as good as they used to be.
