Hi,
I wondered if anybody might have a good idea for a hat that would work for my son to help him avoid seeing adverts on buses?
My son is the variety of ASD that means he can read extremely fast, but can't seem to filter anything out. I'm the opposite, and sometimes don't notice text at all. So for example if we see a bus in the road, he reads and memorises all the adverts on the side of the bus in the first second of sighting the bus. If he turns to me and says "did you see that?" I often do not even recollect seeing the bus.
At the moment we're having a problem because if he sees a bus with a horror movie advert on the side it gives him the absolute heebie jeebies and it takes nearly an hour for him to recover. This is a problem for going places because there are a lot of buses where we live. The adverts are always on the top deck.
I was thinking maybe I could get him one of those sun visors that everyone wore in the 80s, so that he couldn't see the top of a bus when it passes. If I did that, then maybe he would be shielded from seeing the adverts. But then I thought he might look a bit of a noodle in a thing like that.
I wondered if there might be some kind of hat that is sensible for a mid-teen to wear that effectly prevents him from seeing anything above about 10 feet off the ground, unless he tips his head back and deliberately looks up?
At the moment he wears a hoodie and jogging trousers, but in his head he would like to be quite smart, in a school uniform sort of way.
He's got a sun hat with a 3" wide brim but I think the sun visor could be longer.
Thanks!
