Fake toe nails - help!

I am going away next week on a beach holiday - usually splash out and get a pedicure but annoying hand had some kind of infection in my big toe nail that I’ve been treating and now half of it has fallen off !
I had decided to paint them myself this time as didn’t want to sped ann possible infection to nail salon. What do I do now ? Can you buy fake big toe nails that stay put when swimming and can be painted ? Is this a diy or do I need to go to somewhere ? Any advice ! Thanks

I'd not put anything on it whatsoever and let it air and heal. I'd also go and see a GP before my holiday in case I need antibiotics.

No level of vanity is worth letting an infection linger or worse, cover it up with a fake bit of plastic.

Contact a Margaret Dabbs podiatry salon. They offer proper toenail reconstruction for just this type of event.

What kind of infection is it? I would be careful.

Just leave it. The sunshine should do it good.

You probably shouldn’t do anything with it. You will be using public swimming pools and your feet will be alternating wet and dry a lot as well as having additional humidity and heat. It’s basically perfect breeding grounds for infection and if yours hasn’t 100% gone away then the chances of it sticking around longer or getting worse seem reasonably high. You don’t want to increase that likelihood by sticking a plastic nail over the site. You’ll need to be vigilant about continuing the treatment, drying your feet thoroughly and checking for any signs of the infection spreading so you need good visibility of it.

I have been using a canes tan foot cream on it prescribed by pharmacist. He said it looked minor and no need for gp. The infection I’m fairly sure has gone as the toe nail has a huge crack across it initially and post treatment this has softened it and it’s fallen off from that point up which was where the infection was.
I’ve attached a horrible pic of how it looks now, the bright pink is old nail varnish which was stick in the big crack from previous nail polish. You can see my need to want to cover it up when wearing sandals ! I go next weekend !

Should add that where the bright pink is is where it’s broken to, above this is fresh healthy skin. Fairly certain the orange is discolouration from nail varnish on all winter.

Leave it alone. It's not pretty, sure but 99% of people are not going to even notice . If you stick on a fake one it will at best, impair the natural growth and healing, and at worst cause a fresh infection.

You can get fake toenails on Amazon. I understand that covering it up isn’t ideal but as a fellow suffer I feel your pain. I put one on when I went on holidays. Just be sure to take it off as soon as you get home. Mine lasted for the whole holiday. Primark also has them from time to time.

I had exactly that done at a cost of nearly £100 and was assured it would stay on in water. It peeled off the top of my nail bed and was flapping around within 10 minutes of messing around in the pool. I wore a plaster over my big toe for the rest of the holiday.

You can get an acrylic extension which defo won't come off in most nail shops. Whether that's wise or not I don't know but iv had 1 previously when I cracked a toenail off.
