I saw more le Pliage bags than designer bags.
Anything goes in London, you don’t have to change your style if you are visiting to fit in ( should anyone be thinking that)

Why on earth would I be wanting to change my style to fit it? That seems a very odd thing to say!

Overtheatlantic · 02/08/2025 04:00

Le Pliage look so cheap, like a handbag liner from the old days.

RosesAndHellebores · 02/08/2025 04:16

Knee high boots at the height of the heatwave, with shorts.

RosesAndHellebores · 02/08/2025 04:19

Le Pliage isn't a fashion statement, it's a fold-up shopping bag.

FancyNewt · 02/08/2025 06:05

😂this is bonkers. I live in London. No idea what a pillage bag is , but I can assure you that most people look exactly like everyone else up and down the country.

PeonyPatch · 02/08/2025 06:09

Le pliage by longchamp is so overdone now…

Aprilrainagainagain · 02/08/2025 06:11

If you don’t live in London or you have visited infrequently maybe you notice more than the miserable people replying to the OP.
OP I hope you enjoyed people watching.

Miner4aHeartofGold · 02/08/2025 06:17

Another one interested in your observations OP. Of course cities gave styles and trends and it's fun to people-watch.

See I don’t think this is the case. I didn’t see anyone in joggers and Crocs which I frequently do in my neck of the woods and other ‘trends’ and I visited parts that aren’t the tourist parts.

@Britpopbaby this made me laugh as I am reading this in a pair of jogging bottoms and a rather natty pair of green crocs in my flat in hackney!

MidnightMeltdown · 02/08/2025 12:19

Le pliage is bought by people desperate to fit in. Massively overpriced for what it is. Madness.

DiscoBob · 02/08/2025 12:34

All 8 million of us want visitors to conform to our strict wardrobe standards actually. 🤣

Roomgigi · 02/08/2025 12:39

I mostly see Goyard totes - unsure if they are real or fake

defrazzled · 02/08/2025 12:41

My daughter got 3 of those bags for £10 on holiday last year - thats why they are every where 😂

Or just bought because they are practical perhaps.

@AuntyBulgaria ah but you are in doors! I am used to seeing both items in the wild!

I'm a tube station supervisor on tne Underground, so plenty of opportunity to people-watch. 99% of the public look like everyone else across the country. Occasionally you get a peacock or a person looking very groomed and incredibly put together but not often. I pay compliments to customers who are wearing something nice.

The only difference is what Londoners wear in different settings. As long as it's clean, ironed and tidy, you can wear it pretty much anywhere, apart from Buckingham Palace, maybe.

BemVindo · 02/08/2025 16:20

Le Pliage had its day some years ago as a fashion item.

But as a Londoner, I agree - pretty much anything goes in London. You can get away with being very casual these days, too, which is a relief. You absolutely don’t have to buy a new outfit to ‘fit in’ if you’re visiting. Literally, nobody gives a fuck.

LifeBeginsToday · 02/08/2025 16:38

I bought one of these bags from John Lewis recently and sent it straight back. £110 for a fold up shopper is outrageous.

Twilightstarbright · 02/08/2025 16:58

Ive had a a le pliage for years! I’m also a born and bred Londoner.

Anything goes, I’m at the zoo today so I’m in a midi dress and trainers but I think there’s a festival on somewhere judging by the outfits- they looked great!

I think that they are having a resurgence. The last time I was in Flannels I saw them being sold.

I live in the Midlands on the rare occasion I visit London I am taken by how much everything goes where I am it's pretty much a dress and trainers or just something of the equivalent in London there's vintage there's what I (respectfully) call art teacher chic all the randomness and also from the men too. I love it.

Come to DS’s school, every 8 year old in Lambeth wears crocs and joggers… very strong incentive for adults to wear something else.

You’ve clearly never spent a Saturday afternoon and night out wandering round Leeds or Birmingham.
