H&M -in the main bit the mirror is one that makes you look taller and slimmer.
I asked and the girl said yes it was but the ones in the cubicles were the real thing.

I am sure the ones in the Gap are trick as well.I always think I look fab in the cubicle then get home and cry.

Our local shops have ones that make me look fat - I am sure I am a size 8 but I always look a few sizes bigger!!

they'd need a magic mirror not one with a few poxy tricks to make me look a size 8.

ItsNotOnlyTheGoodBits · 28/05/2008 10:21

I thought everyone knew about these.

A few years ago (before my sahm days) I decided I wanted a new suit for work. Mr. GoodBits suggested trying Bond Street as I have never had a designer suit and he wanted to treat me (the sales were on!). In one shop I looked inthe mirror before putting the suit on and in my normal clotes I looked better than I did leaving home. Once the suit was on I looked fab! Taller, slimmer, even my eyes looked brighter.

If even designer shops have to fool us to get us to buy from them there is no hope. I was so disillusioned that I walked out without buying anything.

The suit fitted like a dream though.

Gap sizings are trick too. i am a good 12 yet bought trousers from Gap size 4 (UK 8) the other day!!

also read article saying sonia from eastenders was now size 0 yet on further reading disocvered it was a Gap 0 - pah that means nothing!

brimfull · 28/05/2008 10:22

did you ask them though

I did and they admitted it

I think tis very sneaky

That's why I have never managed to buy anyting from Gap! I don't think to look at the smaller sizes, because they won't fit me obviously

sallyforth · 28/05/2008 10:26

lol when I saw this thread I thought you meant one-way mirrors to stop ppl nicking stuff

clearly spent too long working in a clothes shop in DeadEndTown as a student.... we were instructed to spy on the people trying things on to stop them taking the tags off etc.

DarthVader · 28/05/2008 10:29

I definitely look great in Gap
and shit in M&S

Remotew · 28/05/2008 10:31

Yes, I've known about this for a while. Its obvious when its a trick mirror, been a while since I've come across one. We should get them on the trades descriptions act.

largeginandtonic · 28/05/2008 10:33

I knew it, it's all a fecking conspiracy.

woodenchair · 28/05/2008 10:33

Primak on the other hand have horrible changing rooms, the lights are a little too far back and cast far too many shadows for my liking!
I tried on of their spanx thingies on once, not a pretty site!

DarthVader · 28/05/2008 10:33

I thought the trick mirrors were the ones where I looked shit

TsarChasm · 28/05/2008 10:35

I thought it was me that had the trick mirror in my bedroom....one that make you look fat with a big head

TillyScoutsmum · 28/05/2008 10:38

Clearly a lot of people have these mirrors in their houses... It can be the only reason why large flabby girls walk around in tight leggings with muffin top overhang surely ??

Psychomum5 · 28/05/2008 10:45

well I have yet to come across them, as I always seem to look utter shite in most shops, and barely passable in others.

Psychomum5 · 28/05/2008 10:46

tis a wonder I buy clothes really.

am sure all the DH's are behind some of the hidious mirrors.....they must ring the shops and tell them when their wives are on their merry way in to spend money......"quick, swap the mirrors, she cannot afford anything today"....

widgypog · 28/05/2008 10:50

rofl at psycho..I can see mu DH doing that. Feel quite gutted know cause I always look fab on H and M cahnaging rooms...I thought it was their clothes!!

Psychomum5 · 28/05/2008 10:52

I wonder how many women are now loking at themselves wondering if they do look ok, or are just conned by the mirrors, and are now fretting.....

SixSpotBurnet · 28/05/2008 10:59

If they are trick mirrors, how come my cellulite always looks so much worse in shop mirrors than it does in the mirror at home?

Psychomum5 · 28/05/2008 11:00

tis the lighting that does that!!!!

same as the lighting shows up all my freckles and spots and blemishes, that I don;t have anymore....

Notyummy · 28/05/2008 11:09

Tilly.... I often think that too!

You can check mirrors in changing room by running your fingers down the side of them. They should be fitted flush to the wall; if they come out slightly towards the top (sort of tapering), then they have been fitted to make you look slimmer.

foxythesnowfox · 28/05/2008 11:12

Yes, and I'd very much like one for home
