Would this footwear work?

I’m going to a wedding in a field (if nice weather) or a barn (if not). I’ve got a pink 50s style dress, and I’m thinking white jazz shoes and nice ankle socks. Would that work? Pics will presumably take a while to be approved, but I’ll include them anyway.

I think you'll look a bit twee. Like those American women who describe things as 'fancy'

ooooohlala · 28/07/2025 06:15

It will look nice, but a bit like fancy dress as Pp says. Losing the socks would help I think.

Thingyfanding · 28/07/2025 06:16

I would go for ballet flats with that dress (assuming you want some flat because the ground is likely to be uneven) I also agree with PP that the jazz shoes and socks could look a bit twee.

Bobbybobbins · 28/07/2025 07:27

I think the dress is fine but would not wear the socks

dudsville · 28/07/2025 07:36

That's a pretty dress and a beautiful colour, but I agree, the socks and shoes will look like you're dressing up for a 50's themed event.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 28/07/2025 08:21

I think it would look lovely. I disagree about it looking twee.

Britpopbaby · 28/07/2025 10:30

I think the ballet shoes idea is nice.

Coffeeishot · 28/07/2025 10:35

I think the shoes are nice, i don't like the socks. It will look like you are in fancy dress.

LoserWinner · 28/07/2025 10:39

Thank you to all who commented - I was a bit concerned that the socks might have a fancy dress vibe. I’ll stick with the shoes, and wear light coloured tights instead.

Very pretty dress and I really like the shoes. If it were me, I'd play around with the socks and try out something clashy e.g. an Argyll pattern, or something gothy, just to counteract any risk of looking a bit saccharine. Or I might even go in the opposite direction with Barbie socks .

But I'm sure some people would hate my tinkering, it's just personal taste.

pizzaHeart · 28/07/2025 10:43

You can get invisible socks which are really tiny. I usually wear them with ballet shoes as I struggle otherwise.
I would also do ballet shoes for the beginning and take jazz shoes with me for later intense dancing.

Geneticsbunny · 28/07/2025 20:03

Brogues might look a bit more interesting but have a similar vibe?
