Gradual Tanner for pale legs

I’m on the hunt for a good gradual tanning lotion. Usually use Dove, but having tried that recently it looked a bit orangey on my legs? And I used the lighter option as I’m fair skinned.

I’m going on holiday soon & my legs aren’t great, they’re pale getting older & have always got bruises, I really don’t know where I get them from! I don’t get them out here but obviously on holiday I can’t get away from hiding them so anything anyone can recommend that can make them look better I’d really appreciate it.

I’ve tried fake tan, it doesn’t work well on me (streaky as hell or too orange) or rather I’m crap at applying it so can’t go for that!

I like the garnier gradual tanner. It doesn’t go orange and smells nice

Gatineau gradual tan is brilliant and worth the money.

purplecomet · 27/07/2025 20:11

I agree with @Bessica Gatineau is my favourite.

I'm extremely pale and I use the Nivea Q10 firming gradual tan. I find it applies and sinks into my skin really nicely and I've never been streaky or patchy afterwards. I do exfoliate every time I shower as I use one of those body net things to apply my shower gel so not sure whether that makes a difference!

Try the Bondi Sands cool toned sapphire tan. It’s about £13 in boots in a blue and white bottle and one hour of that gives the most natural looking colour to my very very fair skin that makes people think I look healthy without looking fake tanned. There’s a guide colour so you know if you’ve missed any bits and it’s honestly the best tan I’ve ever used for my pale skin without a hint of orange warmth.

I used the Gatineau gradual tan for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and it was absolutely dreadful.

I’d been using Boots own gradual tan, which is as cheap as chips, and had built up a nice subtle colour just before going away.

It ran out a few days before the start of my holiday, and as I’d had the Gatineau in a recent beauty box, I used that.

It went really patchy after a couple of days and looked so terrible that I had to scrub it all off. I ended up going on holiday looking pasty white after all Hmm

So my recommendation would be for the Boots own gradual tan - it’s cheap, gave me a nice even colour, smells actually not too bad at all, and is a fairly light, almost gel-cream texture that rubs in really easily.

At the the moment I’m using the Nivea (because my local Boots didn’t have the own brand one), and whilst it’s quite good (and certainly better than the Gatineau) I don’t like it as much as the Boots own.

None of these work for me - a ghastly pale person who looks sick on a good day. I use sally henson airbrush legs when I need to.

Bondi Sands gradual tanner works for me on my white pasty legs but I do find it works best with a thin daily application which is a faff.

Palmers Cocoa Butter natural bronze body lotion gives a nice gradual tan and looks more natural than orangey.

Another vote for Bondi Sands Cool Tone Sapphire.

Dior Solar tanning gel is excellent .

hobbledyhoy · 27/07/2025 21:42

Bondi Sands in the blue bottle, excellent stuff.

Oh thank you all, quite a few to look at, will be heading out later today to have a look at them.

Oh I forgot to ask, is it better to apply using my hands or one of those mitts? I usually use my hands?

I use my hands and the Nivea one, but wash my hands after- palms particularly.

I used tanning drops in my usual moisturiser for my face.

currentlybrunette · 29/07/2025 17:33

If you go for the Bondi Sands in a blue bottle, mitt. It’ll stain otherwise because it’s ‘proper’ fake tan but fast and not like the others.
