Impossible bra sizing - help!

Blastedbras · 26/07/2025 11:10

I’ve lost a fair bit of weight and my old bras are too big. Even having tried to look up how to size online, every bra I order is either rides up the back (whilst still feeling tight), won’t sit flat between boobs, or is either to small or big in the
he cup. Or digs in on shoulders. I’ve temporarily converted to crop top bras but need something more substantial for wearing with t shirts.

I don’t care about wiring or not. I just want to wear something that I hardly know I’m wearing. Thinking back, my bras have never been comfortable. I’m just fed up now.

I don’t have any bra fitters near me so stuck with online. Does anyone have the holy grail of online bra sizing please?

Riding up means back too loose - it rides up until it can’t move anymore which is why it feels tight

BusterGonad · 26/07/2025 11:32

Do the A bra that fits measuring guide.

As usually advised on here, check out the Boob or bust website. Not only shows how to measure yourself but advises on the style of bra you should wear.

emwithme · 26/07/2025 11:35

Riding up at the back means the band is too loose. Combined with feeling tight overall this means the cup is too small.

First, put on bra backwards (cups on back) - you should only be able to pull the band in front of you about an inch. You can probably do it much more if the band is rising.

Then, hit up the Boob or Bust measuring guide and follow the steps.

Thanks all! I will check out those resources.

Since losing 5st my bras haven't fit at all! I've tried smaller bands and smaller cups and sister sizes etc and it's been a nightmare. My favourite bras were 34E but baggy cups as total loss of volume at the top of my boobs. Tried 32E and 34DD in same style but they just weren't right.
I've just received an order of 4 front fastening bras in a 34DD from Glamorise and they fit perfectly. The sports bra is crop top shape but the everyday bras are stretch lace cup and they work so well for my new shape. The gore/fastening sits perfectly against my chest and the stretchy cups allow me to scoop forward all the breast tissue. I bought 4 thinking id have to return at least 1 but nope, I'm keeping them all!

Thank you - this is what I’m finding! I haven’t lost as much as you but with exercise as well my shape has changed a lot, which I’m pleased about, but the bra thing 🤯

Thanks for the recommendation I’ll have a look! Did you try any of the measuring suggestions others have suggested? I’ve also got a bikini challenge shortly …

If you have lost volume at the top of your breast you could try a balconette style in a smaller band size. I like Fantasie with side support

MiddleAgedDread · 26/07/2025 15:26

You might need different styles to what you’re used to?
I used boob or bust and depending on how tight I pulled the tape measure it either said it couldn’t give me a size 🤷🏻‍♀️ or I was a 30E. I couldn’t even fasten a 30E but it gave me a starting point to work from and I wear a 32D. Interestingly M&S reckoned I was a 34B or C but that was far too big in the back.

Justanotherteacher · 26/07/2025 15:31

If you’re a D cup or bigger, I’d recommend finding a branch of Bravissimo and booking a fitting. They do seem to know what they’re doing. (And they sell bikinis too!)

My current bikinis are fantasie which fitted great a couple of years ago, I really liked them, I will look at the bras. Thanks.

Ahhh sadly there’s not a Bravissimo within 100+ miles of me.

I’m happy to try any style. I do tend to prefer full cup though. I’m going to do a measuring session later and have a more open mind on styles perhaps.

I tried so many and the best option for me was Boob or Bust for a correct fit.
They do fit tight on the band, but that soon wears off after a wash or two.
I found that even armed with my correct size, different makes of bra fitted completely differently and the nearest true to size was Fantasie.
Next bras are nice, but I go up a band size with them.
You just need to order loads and send back whatever you don't want.

AhBiscuits · 26/07/2025 17:39

Another recommendation for boob or bust. I did end up going up one back size than what I originally measured at but have a really good fit now.

You can phone Bravissimo and they will give you lots of advice and they accept returns if the bras don’t fit.

TheBewleySisters · 26/07/2025 18:16

You can book a video link fitting with Bravissimo from the comfort of your own home.

Blastedbras · 26/07/2025 21:58

Wow just done the booborbust - unreal it’s telling me I’m 34JJ when I’ve been buying 40e! Abrathatfits gave me 38F/FF. Both those cup sizes seem ridiculously big for me. No matter, it seems you were all right the band is too loose but I can’t get my head around it being too big yet feels too tight.

Thanks again to everyone for your replies!

Yes! OP, I know you said you don't have bra-fitters by you, but getting the right fit is utterly transformative. If I were you I'd consider taking a big trip if necessary. I went to Bravissimo and had a bra fitting. It was amazing. I'd been wearing the wrong sized bra my whole life. Ironically I'd had a bra fitting at M&S many years ago which was utterly wrong. My bras never fot - they always rode high in the back and my boots always sank low. As soon as the Bravissimo ladies got me into the right size I looked completely different. Please do consider it (and actually, my first bra from them was a Fantasie one, which I see you say you like). I'm a 34G and I've spent my life thinking I'm a C cup 🙈

I was wearing 4 cup sizes too small. Apparently it's VERY common for women to be doing this until they've had a fitting. Give it a go!

The band feels too tight because your breasts are pushing against the too small cups and taking space from the band. If you pull on the waist of your jeans (with your hand) they become tight, your breasts are pulling on the cups and doing the same thing.

Glad I’m not alone, and thank you for the encouragement! You’re clearly right - I do need a fitting somehow so maybe the online is worth trying as mentioned by @TheBewleySisters

When you try on your new size you really need to scoop all the spare flesh into the cups. Put your hand inside the bra and reach around your side towards your back and pull everything forward. Your shouldn't have any overspill around the band even though it will be very fitted.
I'm so much more comfortable and I look so much better in my clothes now, no lumps and bumps.
