I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think?

It’s a smart country hotel/house type venue

It’s ok. I think there are much nicer long dresses around. But each to their own taste! Are you slim and tall? The top looks like a dance leotard for a dance show.

DaysofHoney · 25/07/2025 00:35

It’s rather evening wear/black tie for a wedding. When is the wedding?

Ladybirdbookworm · 25/07/2025 00:50

It’s gorgeous

RigIt · 25/07/2025 02:43

It’s a lovely dress but a bit too much black, and more formal evening wear than wedding outfit. Is the wedding in the U.K.? Or is there a special dress code? Women usually wear knee length dresses in the uk - formal day wear, maybe a hat depending on the wedding and your role. I believe in the US it’s more like the type of outfit you’ve linked to.

I would avoid black (and white) as some people would be offended and there are plenty of other colours; no need to risk offending the bride, groom or family. Unless it’s specified as ok in the invite.

It looks classy and goofy

i am a guest at a wedding in September and i have no clue what to wear my partner is either in a dark grey or navy suit no decision on tie colour as i would ideally like to match with him and compliment his suit so was think baby blue or wine / burgundy but im only 5ft and a size 14-16 this is his best friend’s wedding i dont want to feel frumpy and hide away from the pictures being took on the day the venue is quite posh so need to be suitable i have found a few options on shein and other websites

Agree it's a bit evening/formal. You don't want to look like you are off to a prom.

Lafufufu · 25/07/2025 06:09

🥴 its a no from me

The dress is fine if you.like that kimd of thing but its giving instagramer on a date night in winter vibes not wedding

SparklyGlitterballs · 25/07/2025 06:11

If there's a Black Tie dress code then this would fit the bill, otherwise it's a bit dark for a wedding in my opinion.

Prayingforananswer · 25/07/2025 06:21

It's perfect for a Middle Eastern or Indian wedding where this style of dress is usually worn.

madaboutpurple · 25/07/2025 06:21

I wouldn't wear black for a wedding.

hobbledyhoy · 25/07/2025 08:26

No I’m afraid it’s not quite right for a UK wedding. You’re looking for something brighter, less sequins and less evening look.

That’s the vibe it gives me too! It’s a nice dress but I don’t think it’s an English country house wedding guest dress.

MrsMoastyToasty · 25/07/2025 08:40

If it's a summer wedding then you will probably boil.

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 25/07/2025 08:49

What time of day is the wedding? It looks suitable for a late-afternoon-into-evening but not so much for midday ceremony/afternoon reception. Also, it is in the U.K.?

Trovindia · 25/07/2025 08:56

It doesn't look weddingy to me, more black tie (and I don't like it anyway).

Yes!

eurochick · 25/07/2025 12:57

Is it a Middle Eastern crowd? It is very much that style.

I wouldn't wear black for a wedding.

You wouldn't, but many, in other countries do. The first time I saw this was decades ago when a wedding guests wore a short black dress with a huge orange hat and orange shoes. It was surprising at the time, but damn, she looked good!
