Ear piercings uneven

My DD had her lobe piercings done last week, and one is closer to her cheek than the other. The good one looks perfect and the position is spot on. Do I take the bad one out and let it heal over so that she can have it re done? Or take both out?

Thank you. It should be fine to find them then. Are they close to the bus station near the Arndale?

I haven’t managed to ring them today as I was at an event but I will ring them first thing tomorrow.

@myglowuperaIt will take less than ten minutes to walk from the Arndale Centre to Holier Than Thou.

OnTheBoardwalk · 20/07/2025 21:31

@myglowupera Piccadilly gardens, is literally 5 mins walk away.

Not sure what you mean by the Arndale bus station. If it’s Shudehill it's also literally 5 mins away

hope they give you some good advice

GrimDamnFanjo · 21/07/2025 15:36

And Holier than Thou are my go to piercers too! I had a real issue with a piercing done elsewhere and they/were amazing and fixed it for me.

I second Holier Than Thou, they know what they're doing.

I’ll third them!

NewGoldFox · 21/07/2025 15:38

How old is dd? I’d think about taking them out and leaving it a while to have them redone.

myglowupera · 21/07/2025 17:12

I’ve spoken to Holier Than Thou today. The lady who I spoke to was lovely and really informative. DD is too young to be seen by them unfortunately. She’s six- seven in September. But their minimum age is eight.

I might just take them both out at this point and let them heal over until she’s a bit older. The lady at Holier Than Thou suggested this as one of the options.

This is one of the reasons why I think DD was a bit too young. Because she’s going to be really upset. I’m going to take her to one of the piercing studios close by to me so that they can have a look at her ears for me and we can talk to DD together. My friend goes to one who she really recommends so I’m going to take DD there this week.

I feel like the worst mum in the world messing DD around like this. But if the piercing had been done properly I wouldn’t even be thinking about taking them out.

If I do take them out, I’m worried that the holes will still remain even after healing. She had them done on Saturday 12th July. Is it still early enough to take them out without the piercings starting to become permanent?

It was done with a gun in a salon. I know exactly what you are going to say, hence why you have asked me. My ears were done with a gun 20 years ago in a salon, and I have never had any problems with my piercings. So I went off my own experience.

It’s only after my DD having her ears pierced that I have come to realise that a lot of people are against the use of piercing guns. I know it sounds naive and stupid but I thought piercing guns were the done thing. I feel horrendous about it.

All I need now is some advice on how to put it right. One of my friends goes to a very good piercing studio and I have been speaking to her about my worries today. She has suggested that we go there and show them. And see what they think we should do. Maybe taking both out, letting them heal over and getting the re pierced with a needle is the right way forward?

take the bad piercing out and go to a proper piercing place and let them redo the bad ear with a needle. If it's only a week old, it will heal in no time. I wouldn't remove the 'good' one.

it takes a few months to heal esp if done via gun. It will just heal and you won't see a thing

RuthChrisSt · 21/07/2025 18:03

Leave the good one in if you like the position. Generally speaking you can't repierce in the exact same spot due to scar tissue.

myglowupera · 21/07/2025 18:07

This sounds like a silly question, but if one ear is pierced with a gun and one with a needle, will you be able to tell? Eg will the earrings sit differently?

Ah that’s a shame about the age limit for Holier than thou. It might be the same at the other piercing studio

both my previous ear piercings had healed over went I went to HTH, they spent a lot of time working around the scar tissue the previous holes had left

if one of their suggestions was to take both out then I would do that. Buy your daughter a little pressie then wait until she’s old enough to go to a piercing studio to get them done when she’s old enough

BBQmuncher · 22/07/2025 12:40

Is Stockport nearby? Bee Tattoed are ace, very clean and I am pretty sure they do kids younger that 6. The guy who runs it is fab. Just give them a ring if you can get there.

myglowupera · 10/08/2025 05:47

As per local piercer’s advice, I took both earrings out and I have been spiralling about how I have taken the “good” one out as I thought the placement was good on that one.

Honestly I could cry. I’ve lost so much sleep worrying myself sick about it. And now in my unprofessional opinion I feel like I’ve made things worse by taking the good one out as that spot can’t be re pierced again can it?

Has anyone else had their ears re pierced and it turned out fine?

Hi thank you for this. Stockport is a bit too far away really.

Hi, after you had your new piercings done around the scar tissue, did they heal ok without any complications and did you like the new placement?

OP posts:
CarlaLemarchant · 10/08/2025 05:58

It will be ok. Just leave them alone for a few years and then revisit the idea when she’s older. Take her to a piercing professional when you’re both ready again and they will advise you. She will be able to have pierced ears, they will look good, it’s frustrating but don’t beat yourself up about it.

myglowupera · 10/08/2025 06:07

Thank you for that reassurance. I’m going to leave it until she’s a bit older and then take her over to Holier Than Thou.
DD has been fine with taking them out. It might be different when she goes back to school though as some of her friends have pierced ears.

I had mine pierced at 11 and took them out but that was due to infection as I was a pain and wouldn’t look after them properly. I had them re pierced at 15 with no problems at all.

@myglowupera yes the piercings were absolutely fine around the scar tissue, I've got big lobes. I guess that’s what they have an age limit so your ears can grow a bit more??

Great you are waiting and taking her to HTT I also had mine originally done when I was 11 and didn’t look after them hence me going to them 20 years later

HTT will also put pretty titanium earrings in that you won’t get in shops and will reduce the chance of infection

That’s reassuring to know yours were fine when you had them pierced again. I think you’re right regarding HTT’s age limit and lobes growing.

When I had mine re pierced I don’t seem to remember them working around my old piercings/scar tissue so I guess I was probably just lucky that I didn’t have any complications if they did pierce through scar tissue.

Is it normal that her lobes have like a little raised spot where the piercings were? It’s the size of a pin prick. Is this a normal part of healing and will they fade over time?
