What shoes with this dress?

Bought this dress in H&M today for £5

Will be lovely on holiday, but what shoes would be perfect? I'm the type of person that wears Birkenstocks or flipflops all summer, but we're off to Italy in the summer and I want nice shoes. It is about knee length.
BTW the photo doesn't do the dress justice but it was the only one I could find.

Oh perfect! I am so pleased with those recommendations as they're the type of thing I would wear. I was worried you may tell me to wear strappy heels
