Deodorant for a whiffy peri woman

I've always used Sure 48hr antiperspirant but now I'm peri menopausal, it's just not cutting the mustard and despite being dry all day, I get a bit whiffy by late afternoon.

What do I need to try?

I like mitchum OR Dove men. .

Idontjetwashthefucker · 08/07/2025 19:11

Sorry, I should have said I've tried that sure one, a green mitchum one and Dove...I'm thinking something that's a bit more powerful

I'm out of menapause but have the opposite. Don't smell but get damp underarms very quickly. Any suggestions for me too please?

yakkity · 08/07/2025 19:29

I had such a problem that even the super powerful 72hour stuff used daily was not cutting it and my arm pits were getting painful and sore with irritation from the powerful deodorant

over lockdown I changed to a natural deodorant. I STANK like a dock worker for a few weeks. I would wash several times during the day and reapply but I was rank. Suddenly I had a day with no smell at all. Then a second day. Eventually I adjusted and now I’m good with the natural stuff.

apparently the arm pit flora and fauna gets disrupted so more bacteria is present so you smell. It took about 4 weeks for the pit biome to rebalance and I’m not smelly now. I am if I do a morning work out and don’t shower all day. But then I would have before.

I would never have believed it as I thought it sounded impossible. But there you go

Mitchum Roll On in a green bottle.

Mingenious · 08/07/2025 19:30

Pirspirex

stops my stinky son stinking 🤣

feathermucker · 08/07/2025 19:32

Driclor. On Anhydrol Forte.

You apply them at night and wash off in the morning.

highfidelity · 08/07/2025 19:37

Smelling like a teenage boy was the first tell I was in perimenopause. No deodorants really worked alone. What did work? HRT. Also, exfoliating my armpits twice a day with a body scrub. However, that said, HRT. Am pleased to report that now I'm post-menopause, all is fine.

One thing. At the time, I recall being really paranoid by how much I stank. I could smell myself all the time. My friends always swore blind they couldn't smell me, co-workers too. That's something to remember, we smell ourselves far more acutely, more so if it's off in any way.

No real suggestions other than use antiperspirant and monitor your pits closely as sweaty ones are ripe for fungal infections. I know this because this happened to me. The pharmacist at my local Boots was a font of knowledge of what to use to help both. Maybe talk to yours.

MarySueSaidBoo · 08/07/2025 19:40

Mitchum cream for Men. The ladies stuff is crap.

And use soap washing your underarms, not shower gel.

Driclor - you can buy it over the counter. Put it onto clean dry armpits at night (DONT shave beforehand!)
Will be agony but a couple of uncomfortable nights, and you’ll notice a massive difference

Sentfrommygarden · 08/07/2025 19:41

Whenever we are in the UK and doing our Asda shop before getting on the ferry I walk out with an armful of Mitchum Powderfresh. So far it has always done the job. And I would say I am of “that certain age” 😃

Plantladylover · 08/07/2025 19:43

Mitchum for daily use

Driclor once a week as well

Idontjetwashthefucker · 08/07/2025 19:49

I use Simple soap and exfoliating gloves every morning in the shower and give them a good scrubbing, I'll have a proper read through all suggestions...thank you

Thanks. There's no other issue, just dampness.

slimps · 08/07/2025 20:58

Armpit Botox was the only thing that worked for me.

fireplaceember · 08/07/2025 18:34

This one, you apply it at night

https://amzn.eu/d/8jLU5V8

this didn’t keep me any dryer than dove and mitchum

OP I would suggest perspirex.

MyMoneyIsAllSpent · 08/07/2025 21:05

Coconut oil is a wonderful deodorant but not an antiperspirant. Unfortunately my head sweats more than anywhere on my body. Anyone know of an antiperspirant for my head? 😣

Edited

It’s very individual. I have no sweat or smell with this but Mitchum does nothing
I shower and apply at night and it’s fine until I next shower

Tsiagisel · 08/07/2025 21:07

Fussy! Can’t recommend it enough, it’s magic. Won’t stop the perspiration, but natural good bacteria stop all smells. No aluminium. Just buy a paper refill to try if you don’t want to commit to the 13 quid plastic refillable case - you can just push up the refill from the bottom as a tester. I apply after the shower when you’re clean and no bad smells ever.

Bloody meno/chemo brain, I meant damp! Damp pits. Mine were constantly damp.

Not any more though, so that's something.

PangolinPan · 08/07/2025 21:20

As a pp has said, I'm finding the natural deodorants are working better, with regular exfoliation of the pits. I prefer Wild for lasting longer but the formulation is really crumbly so Fussy is nicer to put on, I just don't find it keeps the whiff at bay all day.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 13/07/2025 21:52

Thought I'd update this thread and let you know i think I've found the one but I can't upload pics for some reason. It's called Uriage Power 3, been using it for a few days, couple of long walks in the heat, working in a really hot porta cabin and not a hint of a whiff! Very pleased
