I like only curls but not the price tag. I’m new to embracing the curl so only tried one brand so far.

I like cantu, but it depends on what works for your hair.

I didn't like only curls, and I don't get on with the boots pink one that everyone raves about.

Rhyme and reason quench nd curl leave in conditioner is the only thing I use on my curls. I don't have time, money or inclination for fifty different products. I wash nd condition my hair, then put that stuff on and my silk bonnet and leave it to do it's thing. I don't squeeze all the water out of my hair, as my hair needs lots of hydration for my curls to form and not frizz. This is what I have learned in the last 50 years. Also a good cut by a curly hair specialist helps

Ah, see, I love the Boots pink one, and don’t get on with Cantu at all - it leaves my hair stringy.

Flora and Curl also do a good one.

Thanks. Only curls defines my curls but it’s left looking crunchy.

I wish I (my hair!) did like the boots one, it's such a bargain.

Boots curl creme is good

The Briogeo one is lovely but more expensive

Wishimaywishimight · 08/07/2025 11:18

I have spent a fortune on various curl products over the years and still can't find anything as good as the pink Boots creme - I keep waiting for the price to go up!!

I think your hair type makes a big difference. My curls are type 3b/c but very fine, so easily weighed down by anything designed to moisturise coarser, more textured hair. What it needs is a lot of water, not oils, so I do that 'squish to condish' thing in the shower (adding extra water to the conditioner after it's been in for a few minutes, then squishing before rinsing out) then I use Oaui curl creme, followed by Aveda Confixor gel.

Re the crunchy thing, you need to scrunch that out, but only once the hair is completely dry!

A lot of curl care is in the styling/drying, rather than the specific products - Nuala Morey, Curl Cymru, Voss the Curl Boss all have useful guides on their socials.

I like Olew

RockStrangeNight · 08/07/2025 12:28

@BriefHug Interesting, not heard of that technique before! I have thick curly hair but thick by volume not individual strands, and this might help me!

That ^^

curl cream will define a little and tame frizz but it won’t give you any hold or lasting resilts
i I don’t use any cream or leave in, gel and mousse only as I have very soft fine hair

I’ve recently discovered Aussie Curls which I’ve been pretty impressed by considering the price. I wash twice with the shampoo, condition, comb and rinse, and then use a small amount of the miracle curl conditioner and leave it in. Then scrunch it with the curl cream when I’ve taken the towel off. It’s working so far for me, so I hope it continues.

FuriousInventions · 08/07/2025 13:51

Crème de Nature is amazing. Not greasy, only need a little bit, doesn’t make hair crunchy. Cheap as chips too, as the bottle lasts ages.

Oo not heard of this, sounds like my type of thing.

Second the recc for a good curly cut hairdresser - they should be trained to cut curls dry and thankfully there are more around now than when I first discovered the ‘CG’ method which I’ve stuck to for around 15 years.

I currently use Insight products (curl serum is amazing) which are fab & which my hairdresser use to use, & I’m also using up a Cantu curl custard & curl cream which I think are quite a good budget option.

I’ve tried so many different curl products / brands 😅

kurl kitchen is a game changer - you can get it at boots. It’s MAGIC for curls!
