What to wear over this dress?

I’m going to a wedding in a few weeks and I have no idea what to wear over this dress. The wedding is in Scotland and is going to be outside (weather permitting), so I really think I need another layer. I would usually wear a little jersey AllSaints biker jacket, but not sure whether the puff sleeves will look odd. Any suggestions for what style I should look for?

So pretty!
no advice, just came on to say…

bring back the wrap! So granny, but oh so practical and easy!

TwigletsAndRadishes · 05/07/2025 06:44

That's lovely. What about a sort of fluffy/shaggy sleeveless gilet? Might be hard to source at this time of year though.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 05/07/2025 06:45

I think you'll have to just find a nice big pashmina wrap type thing.

Nopayrise · 05/07/2025 06:46

If you think you can manage the bare lower arms, id probably go for a thermal layer underneath instead (like Uniqlo heattech)

PopThatBench · 05/07/2025 06:48

I’m early 30’s and even I’d go for a pashmina/wrap with that, so pretty! Is the other colour lilac or pink? I’d get one in that colour.

A little brown faux fur cape thing? They kind of sit on top of anything. I've seen them used over wedding dresses before.

I adore the colours of your dress.

this something you can’t see or a wrap

The dress works well due to those sleeves

Agree - wear something under rather than over. You can always take it off and shove it in your bag if you get warm later. Also.. as someone who has experienced this. Be aware of wind blowing that skirt up especially in Scotland. Having learnt the hard way I'd definitely be wearing something under that or sewing something into the hem to weigh it down. It's a gorgeous dress.

Another here saying layer under, not over. That dress isn't meant to have a layer over.

Thanks for the suggestions and the love for the dress! I adore it!

To complicate things slightly, I’ll need to breastfeed at the wedding, but I really wanted to wear this dress. I’m wearing a little pink shorts and crop top bra underneath, which I’ve altered into a clip down nursing bra. I suppose another top over that would be possible, though.

@PopThatBench It’s orange and pink. Such a great combo!

@Ibetthatyoulookgoodontheseesaw I LOVE that and am absolutely not against clashing patterns. I am already wearing it with orange heels and I have a marbled orange and pink bag, though, so I’m a bit wary of going overboard.

I agree with posters saying a wrap would work, but I was hoping to avoid as I’m not sure I’ll manage to keep it on while wrangling a wriggly 9 month old!

How on earth are you going to breastfeed wearing that? Confused
It's high necked and doesn't unbutton at the front.

DelphiniumBlue · 05/07/2025 12:45

I think I’d wear a trench coat over my shoulders for the outside bit. Or a fake fur gilet, as suggested earlier.
But I do wonder how you breastfeed in that dress.

BadLobster · 05/07/2025 16:24

I’m just going to lift it up! The shorts underneath are to save my blushes. I was going to try to find something breastfeeding friendly, but all the available options in my budget made me so sad. To be honest, she probably won’t need feeding super often. I’ll take some expressed milk in a bottle in case she needs some at an inopportune moment.
