How to repair favourite dress?

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can give me advice on how to repair a much loved dress which has been strained at the seam (thanks DH for last minute hike involving climbing over large rocks!) and is coming apart. It is 100% viscose. Picture attached to show the issue. This seam runs down the middle of the dress and it is a very loose dress so am wondering whether I could somehow cut it open and fold the damaged material underneath and then sew it back up. But sewing is not my strength (can you tell?!) so would welcome advice.

TIA!

If you're not a proficient sewer as you say, best take it a repair place. Floaty viscose can get caught in the machine, making it worse.
All towns have a repair shop or people working from home. Try asking on your local Facebook if no shop.

Can’t imagine why you’d want to DIY if it’s not in your skill set! There will definitely be a decent alterations place accessible to you - google for the best reviews or photos of their work.

That could be darned almost invisibly or covered with a beautiful embroidery embellishment like a star or a jewelled insect or a flower.

It would take me less than five minutes to repair that but if you are not proficient at sewing or are nervous about attempting it then take it to a local seamstress.

i would also start looking on eBay and Vinted and other second hand sites to see if the dress 👗 in good condition appears as a replacement!
