Anyone bored? - Dress help - URGENT!

DirtySexyMummy · 24/05/2008 16:11

I am going to a wedding next week. I am desperately trying to get a dress for it, and one that I can also wear to a posh regatta which is the following week.

I have literally tried everything, and now I need some MN help!

I am looking for a dress, preferably black but that is a variable, I want one that is a minidress, but with a full skirt, IYKWIM. Like a tutu almost. Slightly prom style, straps preferred but not essential as I would wear a contrasting bra or go braless if it was supportive enough.

I have a kind of quirky, alternative-y style, a bit like Peaches Geldof of Kelly Osbourne. I am a size 10/12.

If anyone is bored enough to help me find something.. I have run out of websites that I know!

TIA

any in oasis?

lou33 · 24/05/2008 16:14

have you looked here?

norkmaiden · 24/05/2008 16:19

do you mean this sort of thing??

DirtySexyMummy · 24/05/2008 16:22

Norkmaiden - that is absolutely gorgeous. I LOVE it. But, I can't use ebay as I don't have paypal.

Its almost exactly the kind of thing I am after.

ggirl - have tried oasis, nothing good there. All too long for me. I am quite small!

lou33 - don't really like quiz, its all a bit cheap looking IMO. I will have a look though, thanks.

i got a pencil skirt and satin corset shirt from there and they didnt look cheap at all, in fcat people were shocked when i told them how much it all cost

also my mate got one of the net strapless tutu style dresses and it looked fine, though not my cup of tea

norkmaiden · 24/05/2008 16:26

oh what a shame - what about a mate/family member who would let you use their paypal - or if you're really keen, why not open one (it's dead simple to do).

Anyway there are lots on ebay - just search for 'rockabilly' and size.

DirtySexyMummy · 24/05/2008 16:26

Which one lou?

I don't mean to offend, I am sure some of their stuff is nice. Just my general experience of it wasn't great. I am open to ideas of course!

lol i wasnt offended

i expected it to look a bit cheap as well, but it didnt, but i have only used them the once, so maybe generally their clothes are cheap? i dont know

i think it was this one

DirtySexyMummy · 24/05/2008 16:28

I did norks.. found loads. I have had my Paypal account suspended at the moment because this horrible man opened a dispute against me claiming I didn't send off the item I sold, when I did. Thankfully, I got proof so I am waiting for the dispute to close, however this only happened a few days ago and it can take up to 2 weeks, and the wedding is next week.

I really love that dress though, and I am looking to get something like it but not through ebay. Its proving very difficult..

this one takes cheques - lots will but it just takes a bit of trawling through! Good luck!

sparklesandnowinefor5months · 24/05/2008 16:29

how much are you looking to spend?

DirtySexyMummy · 24/05/2008 16:30

Anything up to £200.

And... I don't have a chequebook

I did have one, years ago, but have no idea where it is, have never used it and would imagine I binned it sometime when moving house.

DirtySexyMummy · 24/05/2008 16:32

Have literally trawled asos.. honestly, out of like, 500 odd dresses, nothing. Well, one, but it was out of stock in my size

OP posts:
DirtySexyMummy · 24/05/2008 16:33

janeite - I don't really like the frillyness of that one..

OP posts:
sparklesandnowinefor5months · 24/05/2008 16:34

this?

norkmaiden · 24/05/2008 16:34

oli
?

JackieNo · 24/05/2008 16:36

This? Though skirt not quite right.

DirtySexyMummy · 24/05/2008 16:38

Sparkles - bit too fancy.. (I know, so fussy)

Norks - LOVE that oli one! You are very good at this! Will order that one and see how it looks.

Am looking to order a few to try, so any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

janeite · 24/05/2008 16:39

I give up. Don't mind looking but only for somebody who can be bothered to say thankyou even if they don't like things. Grrrrr.

DirtySexyMummy · 24/05/2008 16:39

Hmm.. jackie I think that one would make my hips just look huge.

OP posts:
DirtySexyMummy · 24/05/2008 16:40

Oh my goodness

Janeite, I am so sorry. I didn't mean to sound ungrateful at all, honestly this help is fantastic.

Sorry

janeite · 24/05/2008 16:42

Lol - sorry! I have PMT I think - ignore me!

Do you like Goth-type stuff - would a tutu and corset be a bit TOO OTT?

norkmaiden · 24/05/2008 16:42

glad you like it! Think that's the best I can come up with, though, back to work for me.
