Foot shaver for cracked heels?

Perfectlystill · 27/06/2025 13:52

I have ordered some expensive sandals thanks to MN S&B leading me astray, and now I need to file my heels.

Can anyone recommend a good file or shaver or anything eg from Amazon? I want to attack them this weekend so my feet look nice in their new sandals.

Thank you!

Footner foot mask is great but IIRC it takes about ten days to start working and then several days of peeling. However you will be left with lovely feet!

MaryGreenhill · 27/06/2025 14:10

You need Flexitol foot cream with 10% urea in it . Put it on when you go to bed , do it for about 3 to 4 weeks and don't use a file or a pumice stone .

Marianwallace · 27/06/2025 14:11

I second Flexitol heel balm.

OriginalUsername2 · 27/06/2025 14:12

I can’t link but put this in Amazon search

Manicare Corn And Callus Remover

Its the £5.11 one.

It’s bloody brilliant.

marshmallowfinder · 27/06/2025 14:17

I'd have them done at a salon asap this time, then keep up maintenance with Flexitol foot cream.

BreakingBroken · 27/06/2025 14:18

My DIL gave me one called Anglefeet Pro, sadly I don’t see it available on Amazon.
Lava stone used regularly does work, between a urea cream, salt foot soaks and twice daily scrub you’ll be fine in 5 days time.

This is my absolute holy grail and only thing that makes my feet feel like I've had a pedicure: Amazon nano glass foot file

It sorted out my partner's feet and they have been cracked and rough for the 10+ years we have been together. I have recommended to loads of people who all say the same.

it was actually a MN recommendation!

LesFreresHeureux · 27/06/2025 14:28

Going forward, I’d recommend doing a foot peel mask every spring, followed by regular moisturising masks to keep your feet looking their best going into summer.

Diabetic, with nasty heels, don't file, hard skin is a reaction to rubbing, the more you file the more hard and cracked your skin wants to be. I stumbled across Margaret Dadds foot cream. Game changer for me, but I suspect any good quality foot balm may have achieved the same results.

PenelopePerseveres · 27/06/2025 14:37

A Margaret Dabbs foot file used gently twice a week and foot cream with urea in it has sorted out my feet over the last three months. Amazing results.

Don't try to do too much at once, I had a pedicure at an airport once to fill an hour when I had a long delay. They 'shaved' my hard skin off with something that looks like the blade in my thing for cleaning my glass hob. Like @fedupusingOHslaptop says, my body then accellarated to replace the shaved off skin and I really struggled to get rid of hard skin for about 18 months.

Preciousssssss · 27/06/2025 15:34

Don’t do anything rough. Get yourself some

Footmender All in One

from Boots or Amazon.

poppysqueak · 27/06/2025 16:18

I second the Amazon nano glass foot file as linked to above. I bought it after seeing it recommended on MN.
Absolutely fantastic - best foot file/hard skin remover I’ve ever used.

Summerbean · 27/06/2025 16:43

Everyone except me seems to like the Amazon glass for file-did nothing for me and I'm back to my Lidl foot files.

Countrylife2002 · 27/06/2025 20:31

I actually saw a podiatrist today and she said never ever file your heels - it just makes more deadskin grow

i absolutely never knew this! I use a blade like they do for pedicures and my heels are a constant struggle- I seem to spend so much time battling hard skin

Perfectlystill · 27/06/2025 21:49

This is so interesting about not filing your feet! Who knew???

See a podiatrist worth every penny

Thanks all. I actually ordered the foot glass thing and also shaver recommended above (plus Flexitol), but I note all the 'don't file your feet' comments too, so I might use my new gadgets today and then rely on Flexitol/Margaret Dabbs cream thereafter.

Really appreciate all the advice.

ArcticBells · 28/06/2025 10:42

I’ve just bought the flexitol foot cream !

@MaryGreenhill @marshmallowfinder
is it this one ? I can see a few of them, balm, cream, rapid cream etc but i am curious to try the one you both recommend

I would ignore that piece of advice about not filing your feet. I bet there are other foot specialists around who would say it’s ok to do it.
