Make up on long haul flights?

Arraminta · 26/06/2025 11:35

Flying long haul today and having the usual dilemma over whether to wear make up, or not?

I prefer not to, but also prefer to not look washed out and haggard either. What does everyone else do?

Dear lord, what on earth for? Are you expecting the paparazzi at the other end?

ExtensivelyDecorating · 26/06/2025 11:37

Eyebrows only (otherwise I look like Mr Potato Head).

IrishMist78 · 26/06/2025 11:37

I just pop some tinted moisturiser on and call it a day. In reality on a long haul flight how you look is the least of your worries - everyone else will be exhausted/fed up too and won’t take any notice of it!

MojitosAllRound · 26/06/2025 11:37

Have never thought about and have never worn make up for a flight of any length. Comfort is far more important than appearance on a long haul flight so do whatever makes you comfortable.

Itallcomesdowntothis · 26/06/2025 11:38

Oh God no! Why?

Waitingfordoggo · 26/06/2025 11:39

I don’t wear make up ever so not wearing it on a flight is an easy decision! My skin gets dry when flying so I like to be able to slather moisturiser on regularly during the journey. I’m sure your face looks absolutely lovely as it is. (Though if you did look washed out or haggard, would it matter?)

3peassuit · 26/06/2025 11:40

I never bother on a long haul. I do put on a bit of mascara and lip gloss on arrival but that’s it.

BlueBlueCowWondering · 26/06/2025 11:41

You'll look a fright in the plane mirror- everyone does! But as pp mentioned, good brows might help.
Apart from that, loads and then loads more moisturiser and you'll be fine

Cynic17 · 26/06/2025 11:41

Don't bother, because - either way ‐ I can guarantee that nobody will care. Just rub a wet wipe over your face, and you're good to go!

MichaelandKirk · 26/06/2025 11:42

I agree with PP. NOONE will be looking their best after a 12 hour flight.

However ocassionally I do fly Business Class and feel I need to look more glam so I put it on until the time comes when people start to lie down and go and take it off in the bathrooms. I also like to put on the pyjamas as it makes me feel more comfy.

postmanshere · 26/06/2025 11:43

Unless you’re thinking your one true love might be on the plane I wouldn’t bother. Even then, if he can’t accept your face as it is it probably isn’t true love (but I suppose first impressions count for something).

The last long haul I went on it was gradual tan only. Baggy t shirt and comfy trousers with sandals.

Moveoverdarlin · 26/06/2025 11:43

I’d wear full make-up. Always do. Don’t want to get served by gorgeous air stewardesses looking like death.

chatw0o0p · 26/06/2025 11:54

I don't, because the time I get to the other end, eye make up is going to be on my face instead - and if I'm on a night flight, I don't want to sleep in mascara. I'll always look like crap when I land at 5 in the morning, so am happy to wait until I get to my final destination to have a shower and proper tidy up.

HermioneWeasley · 26/06/2025 11:54

This is so weird to me- who is going to be seeing you that your care about their opinion? Or that’s they’d even have a negative opinion to you being make up free for a long haul flight (or ever)? Do you think any men are stressing about this?

Arraminta · 26/06/2025 11:56

Right, so with relief I'm not going to bother. Already have a light tan from previous holiday and have just had eye lashes tinted, so hopefully slightly less haggard than usual. Will pick up a new Bobbi Brown tinted lip balm in duty free, and call it done.

I tend to pop to the loo and remove my makeup and contact lenses after take off, slapping on loads of moisturiser. It works as a bit of a sleep trigger for long haul flights. I then do a quick touch up before landing.

Okthenguys · 26/06/2025 11:57

I never do - but will apply a fresh face just before landing if necessary. On the plane just moisturize, hydrate and try sleep as much as you can!

@Moveoverdarlin ha ha- I used to think that too when I was under 45 - now I can’t compete at63 so don’t really care, but I do always use eyebrow pencil , a bit of mascara , a pop of gel blusher and tinted moisturiser or I look unwell!! When I was19 or so I used to be the same watching miss world- wouldn’t watch it without full make up on !! lol

JDM625 · 26/06/2025 12:11

I take moisturiser for the flight because the air con is very dying. I put some lipstick on when I leave home, but otherwise don't use anything else on the flight.

Prior to landing, I might put lipstick on again but that is all.

KPPlumbing · 26/06/2025 12:24

I wear a miniscule amount - a bit of eyebrow pencil and under eye concealer, as I like to spritz my face with a facial oil mist every so often through the flight.

iamnotalemon · 26/06/2025 12:33

If it’s a night flight then I may have whatever makeup left over on my face from that day, but if it was a day flight I wouldn’t specifically apply it. Have a great trip.

Gerrasa · 26/06/2025 15:51

I wear my normal makeup that I put on every morning. TM, blusher, eyebrow powder, mascara, eyeliner, lipstick. I'm lazy about removing my makeup and often sleep without taking it off, so it's no different to spending the day wearing makeup and sleeping in it (except I never manage to sleep more than a couple of hours on a flight). I don't ever find I need to moisturise more often than usual on flights as I have oily skin.

minnienono · 26/06/2025 15:54

For flights I take make up with me and apply before landing if I can be bothered at that point

Idontjetwashthefucker · 26/06/2025 16:05

Nope, can't think of anything worse than being stuck on a long haul flight with a face full of make up. I wash my face a couple of times during the flight and moisturise as I have dry skin, and also use wipes to freshen up in between...I always feel grimy on flights
