Effortlessly stylish wedding outfit for a size 16

Hello Style and Beauty queens. Please help! I'm going to a wedding in August, it's an immediate family member and a big wedding so I want to feel good on the day and look decent in the photos. I'm 39 and losing weight atm, won't be at my final target by the wedding but I have a mini-target. I want something comfortable and flattering but still stylish. Nothing too "old" or floral, I like classic styles and strong/bright colours. Preferably a dress, knee length or longer, with short sleeves. I have a large bust so no high necks! I'm hourglass/pear shape so tend to suit dresses that are fitted at the waist but with a skirt that flares out a bit. Currently size 16, might fit a size 14 by the wedding if I'm lucky. (NB if wearing separate top/bottom it would be size 14/16 on top and size 16/18 on bottom).

Any suggestions of places to look or specific dresses/outfits would be very welcome. TIA!

I just wore this dress to a wedding yesterday and got so many compliments!

Flattering, easy to dance in (and eat! 😋), non-creasing material… I picked out the light peach for a wrap and fascinator, wore quite a bold gold necklace with it, tan clutch and shoes. Felt fabulous all day! 😊

Me and Em will be the benchmark for event dressing this summer

This is the sort of snobbish, insular claptrap that attempts to make fashion and style inaccessible to those not 'in the know' and/or without a certain budget. Absolutely cringe.

thank you @TryForSpring ! Some of them are really floppy and shapeless too 😂

It's not my son's wedding! I'm only 39!

That blue flowery dress you showed would look frumpy on a 79 yr old….at 39 there’s a world of fashion at your feet. Those me and em dresses look fab!

Do you mean the Scamp and Dude one?
I completely disagree.
What dress size do you wear, out of interest?

Doesn't suit me unfortunately; see my post and photo shared on 28/06/2025 11:56.

I like the colours on your Boden dress.

I'm a similar age and size and have just bought this for my brother's weddding after seeing Mollie Campsie in the white version https://mintvelvet.com/products/red-cotton-maxi-dress

Higher neckline than you wanted but think it would still suit a larger chest?

I’m not sure if it’s scamp & dude… but it’s the one that looks like it comes from a supermarket.
A friend went to a personal shopper at a department store (John Lewis!) and she tried outfits she’d never loo at in a million years if she was shopping herself…she actually bought 2 of the recommendation and looked a million dollars.

Not sure what your budget is, but I recently bought the most flattering dress I’ve ever owned from Rixo.

Most I’ve ever paid but I feel great in it every time. They have lots with v necks and are bra friendly.

Good luck with your search!
