Moisturiser/products to heal skin surface

I'm late 50s, rosacea, pale skin. Keep getting spots and inflamed areas - mainly on the front of my cheeks and chin. There are some areas of skin which just seem 'weaker'.

Obvs tried all sorts but more recently Cetaphil and Aveeno moisturiser at night, and Trinny London BFF De-Stress serum as makeup base. Am wondering whether something thicker and more moisturising might help it to heal up - or a different type of product altogether? Any suggestions?

Have you tried this product. Specifically formulated for rosacea rosalique.co.uk

I haven't, have looked at it before but not gone for it. Is it good?

As I’ve got older I can’t put anything except basic emollient cream on my face without it coming out in eczema round my eyes and rosacea everywhere else… I had started to look a right mess! I use Epaderm, it’s very cheap and actually my skin doesn’t look too bad on it.

I’m quite envious of proper who can use different potions 😆

I have psoriasis and have used other moisturisers they make (Salcura) which I was gifted from a friend who raves about the rosacea cream.

avene cicalfate cream is great for repairing your skin barrier overnight.

Have you tried la Roche posay? Absolute game changer for my skin. I used effaclar duo then once my skin had cleared I switched to effaclar h which repairs damaged skin but doesn't cause spots. I also use the effaclar h wash. It's pretty much the only thing I can use on my face longer term that doesn't cause me issues as skin is also sensitive! They make a regime specifically for rosacea too.

Another vote for epaderm. Keep it as simple as possible to give your skin chance to heal. I generally use the cream.
For absolutely terrible eczema I use the ointment overnight instead.

Get a tester first as it turned me bright orange. There's a Revolution one in a jar called Super base which is much nicer and cheaper.

I prefer CeraVe to Cetaphil.

Thanks all, that's really helpful 😀
Think I might try the Epaderm first (not least as it's cheapish :D)

I tried La Roche Posay a few years back (can't remember which product) and it was good I think, will have a look.

Will keep an eye on the Avene and Rosalique and CeraVe options too.

The Cetaphil Anti-Redness cream I just tried I wouldn't particularly recommend - also it has started to smell 'off' after just 5 weeks so going in the bin.

I find that I need to layer products as I’m getting older, I was using Eucerin Replenishing Face Cream with 5% urea for years and was absolutely fine but eventually it wasn’t enough and I’d still get dry patches.

I switched to Dr Sam Bunting Intense Moisturiser and that made me drier than the Sahara so went back to the Eucerin and added Medik8 intense B5 Serum underneath which seemed to do absolutely nothing and I have no idea why because it’s supposed to be really hydrating.

Eventually out of desperation I stopped using the B5 and tried Byoma Hydrating Milky Toner underneath the Eucerin and it’s like bloody magic. I had absolutely no expectations, if a £59 B5 serum couldn’t sort the problem why would a £12 toner but it did, it also looks like a product targeted towards teens which was putting me off.
I just put a bit in the palm of my hand, rub my hands together then pat it all over my face and apply moisturiser.

I’m unsure if I’ll need to add an extra moisturiser over my usual one come winter because I usually do but at the minute I’m well hydrated.

About 6 weeks ago I also started using a red light mask everyday and I’ve definitely seen an improvement in my rosacea and general skin texture. I think good hydration and the mask have been a lovely combination for me.

I've also had success with Estee Lauder Advanced Night Recovery serum ( applied before moisturiser) it's really expensive so if you want a dupe then Revolution Pro so a near identical dupe ( only difference I can make out is it's slightly thicker which I prefer and has a faint lavender scent) it's only £8.

cicaplast baume b5 will repair a damaged skin barrier

I had rosacea so badly around my chin that I couldn't wear tighter necked jumpers in the winter - my skin would bleed if the jumper caught an area. I know what you mean about your skin seeming 'weak' - it almost felt like a layer was missing. Mine came on when I was about 48 at perimenopause. I'd had pretty good skin until then so definitely hormonal.

I had a few pieces of success with various prescription medication like Rozex but it seemed like my skin got used it and the rosacea would come back.

I finally found out about Soolantra (ivermectin) when I was about 50/51 I think. I asked my GP about it but, although it is approved, at the time it was too expensive for him to prescribe. So I went online to Superdrug. At the time you had to supply a photo so their doctors could confirm rosacea, then they'd issue a private prescription and you could buy it through Superdrug online.

It's expensive - about £50 a tube. But I was spending that on all sorts of lotions and potions. So I tried it for 6 weeks. Didn't need to use the whole tube as the pimples just went.

I'm in my 60s now and it's never come back. I don't use too much on my skin just in case. So I use a gentle cleanser and nivea moisturiser and that's it. I'm very careful in the sun to stay SPF'd up to the eyeballs! I still get a red 'blush' if I've had spices or alcohol but no pimples, no soreness. I can cope with the small 'blush' now and then!

Could be worth a look? It doesn't work for everyone but it was a miracle for me.
